I now have 2 SR500's. One new one I got dirt cheap as a blemished. It is very blemished, but still plays and sounds great. The other is a 2007 MIK.

The question is, which one to have defretted?

I'd throw them both in the air and whichever lands first, defret.

If you have a fret rocker or can tell which one has more uneven frets I would do the one that needs more fretwork.

That's the one reason I'm thinking about doing it to the Korean one. Not surprisingly, lots more fretwear on it.

It might be cheaper to buy a replacement neck w/o frets, but you'll have to adjust the bridge accordingly.

I've been looking for one with no luck.

Looks like I'd have to do some serious routing on the body of either of my 500's to get that to fit.

At first I thought, defret the blemished one and then refinish the whole thing as a project. But, couldn't you switch the necks back and forth if you wanted to?

I'm not sure what you are getting at, as I want one to be fretted and the other fretless.

I think P74 just means since they likely have the same neck pocket and bolt pattern, which ever neck you make fret less could easily be put on either body. Even put it on each to see which body/pickup combo suits you best

Lol, makes sense. I was overthinking it. I do that a lot.

I'm not sure what you are getting at, as I want one to be fretted and the other fretless.

Sorry for sounding confusing (or confused). I'm assuming that the necks are bolt-on. If you de-fret one neck, then you could switch necks back and forth between bodies as you wish. Or, is that not possible?

I pulled the frets out of my maple necked 300 yesterday. Doing up a cyanoacrylite fretboard finish this weekend and just picked up some EB Cobalt Flats just now. Going to try to get the strings as low as possible to get that mwaahh thing going.

I have a little more work to do on the board next week but I've restrung it with the rounds that were on it. It has a nice buzzing growl at most positions now that the neck is straight and the strings lowered.

Looks good. What kind of finish did you use?

Superglue. Smelled like hell but was easy to put on. Supposed to be hard as nails.
