My SR600wf has a neck thickness of 19.5mm @ the 1st. vs 21mm on my SR400qm, and it's really noticable to me for only 1.5mm difference.

Yeah, they really slimmed down on the newer models. I thought the 20.5 on my 1015 was insanely thin. I'm guessing that's part of the reason for the switch to Jatoba. having an extremely hard wood would allow for super thin necks. The titanium reinforcement rods on the Premiums and Prestiges would help with that too.
My 1200e seems pretty well shielded with shielding paint. So far mine is real quiet. I'm not sure what might happen at your church though if you pick up a lot of interference there.
TK4261: Is that a stock finish on your SR or did you have it refinished when you had the custom work done on the headstock? Yours really "pops" more than most, although they all look pretty nice.
Local GC had a 1405e hanging on the wall for quite a while. I played it a few times and liked the feel and really dug the pups. I think the main attraction for me in this is bass is the norstrands. I thought about buying a pair of norstrands and retrofitting into another bass, but they are dang expensive pickups. I've only seen them for sale at around $300 each.
I'd be better off buying the Ibanez and selling my Yamaha.
I almost bought the 1405e outright, figuring I'd taking it to the church and plug in and seeing how the noise was. Went one evening last week with my Yamaha to play them both and they went and sold it on me
I really like the looks of the 1205e better than the 1405e anyway; but I'm not ready to order it mail order & possibly eat shipping costs and none of the other shops in the area seem to have one on hand.

The body of mine is the stock finish. The only thing I did is strip the finish off the headstock and left the Rosewood underneath raw.
I use Howard's Feed 'N' Wax from Home Depot on the whole Bass and that stuff really makes the natural color of the wood come out...I really like that stuff. I use to use Warwick Wax on all my natural Basses but that stuff is hard to come by now. I think the Howard's Feed 'N' Wax is much better though.
My SR1200e is pretty quiet and i think you would be more than happy if you ended up getting a 1205e

I'm still confused about how the headstock on yours wasn't natural. Te website shows them as unfinished. Why would they put such a nice piece of rosewood under that plain black?
I'm confused too...lol...It was a huge difference from what they show on the Ibanez site. It wasn't completely black, more like a dark Matte finish. You could barely see the wood grain underneath.
I understand they have to put a finish over the thin metal SDgr logo but they should use a more clear/thin top finish on the headstock. My opinion

Thanks for the pic of the headstock right before the strip, I see what you're saying about barely being able to see the grain. Looks a lot better now. Especially with how nice the rest of the bass looks. It's really a beauty.

yeah, I dread opening up any of mine. I think my 905 is the only one that fairly clean and organized. I really don't want to rewire my 3005 when I get the new pots in. I'll eventually need to replace the jack too. Good times.
I haven't opened the back of my 755 yet, I don't know jack about electronics and I don't feel like messing with them. Luckily for me, the new model has a separate compartment for the battery that doesn't require a screwdriver to access. I went to rehearsal once with my old 505 and the battery died, didn't have a way to open it to replace it. The amount of relief when I saw that they changed that still makes me smile haha
My 905 has the old cover that needs to be unscrewed. Ibanez makes a battery compartment that can fit the models with just the cover, I'll be ordering one after the new year.
A couple of days ago I had to pop off the back cover of my 505 and tighten some pots, as well as the plug jack. For some reason the plug jack got loose, and the balance knob would act more like a second volume knob--if I selected the bridge pickup I wouldn't have any sound, but if I jiggled the plug it would come back to life. After tightening it all works now.
I am failing at maintaining my strings and fretboard though--what am I supposed to do, exactly? I just got new strings maybe 2 months ago (at the most) and spots of them look dirty, and I'm always getting dirt on the fretboard, even a week after wiping it down...

I just use a little lemon oil and a piece of cloth, not sure what else you can do than that. If you have oily hands, it might be a good idea to wash them before you play.
