I guess his thinking was that if the truss rod is exerting force to counteract the strings and then you remove all the strings, it is putting unnecessary reverse pressure on the neck. Of course, modern necks that are five piece or have graphite may not even require much truss rod adjustment. It's kind of old information that may have applied more to how necks used to be made - still it's a habit for me.

I've done it before. If you want to thoroughly clean the fretboard, it's kind of necessary. But if you're the kind of person that replaces their bass strings more than say, twice a year, the "change the strings one at a time" method is definitely better for the neck. So my thought is, if you're just changing the strings, do it one at a time, if you're cleaning the fretboard also, take them all off, clean, then put the strings on.

I usually wipe down the fingerboard with rubbing alcohol--does the trick but a few weeks later it's dirty again. Maybe my fingers are just super oily....

Snagged it at my local GC for $300.00! I have been looking for a loooong time for the perfect 5 string, walked into to this about a week ago. I borrowed/gigged with a friends SR505 and it wasn't quite what I was looking for..but I knew I wanted a Soundgear..I have a played a 74 Jazz for a long time and since I have small hands I love the neck on this..

Dude, that's a STEAL! I paid $500 for mine. I just picked up my 3005 at GC for $350. Every once in a while, you get lucky with the japanese models since they don't have model numbers on them and people assume they're cheap. So congrats on that awesome deal!

As for your fretboard, it looks like it's Rosewood. I'm guessing they stopped doing the Wenge fretboards in '97. Mine actually doesn't have the "Custom Made" inlay on it, they dropped that in '98. Either way, you got a great bass at a great deal.

I can't believe it was so cheap...I kept my mouth shut and instantly put it on layaway after I played it. There is some minor buckle rash on the back and the PUP screws are a little rusty but that's all i can find thats wrong with it..will def give it a workout New Years Eve and see what it's got!
