Hi everybody, last year I got a 1994 SR500FL (Fretless). I'd like to know if anybody has upgrade this model, specially which pickups/preamp has put on it (thinking on putting passive pu's with an active preamp), and which bridges will fit on it (I know that any, but I mean similar size just to be able to reuse screw holes or at least not making them visible). My bridge has some unwanted vibrations and PU's (ADX PJ) are too bright for my taste.

Then again if I wanted a bass that has a Fender look to it, I'd just go buy a Fender.

I've never had any interest in any Fender basses, as they are for me, too common. Playing them on stage is like expecting to bump on to someone wearing the exact same clothing in a party or wearing company given attire in a company event, without any special element to differentiate me from the others.

But the TMB is another story. It may have taken some elements of design from Fender's, but it has its own characteristic, just like the ATK basses. I certainly would dig a TMB605 or an ATK805 had any of them were available for me to purchase locally (given I had the budget).

I hear ya about the Fender's looks. That's why when I bought my Ibanez SR400EQM back in August I got it with the Purple Space Burst option. The chances of me ever seeing another one being used live is about the same as me winning the lottery. Aside from that, it's a great playing bass too! It's more than capable of handling anything I'll ever dish out on it. Now all I think about is buying more Ibanez basses though there is one Schecter I have my eye on. And I haven't picked up my Cort since I got it either.

Yeah the TMB, although Fenderish looking, I think is a different beast than a Fender for sure. I've been impressed by what I have seen and heard so far. Wish they would do something to make it stand out visually. I've never been a Fender person.

EMG has a PJ set (passive) Geezer Butler Signature Series and they also have an "Active" ceramic PJ set. Aguilar makes a set. As does Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio and Nordstrand has 7 flavors to choose from on their PJ sets for 4 string bass. If it were me, I would go with the Nordstrands.

I have a ad for SDGR basses which dates from about '92 which was when the AFR pick ups were first introduced as it says that the AFR is ''Designed in the USA'' I have a spare set of AFR's and the wires have some writing on them in some language or other..maybe Korean??..I always been under the impression that the AFR's were made for Ibanez in Korea by the company Mighty Mite which is related to the Korean Cort company in a similar way that the Bartolini MK series are ''American desgned'' but made in Korea..i have two SR800's one has EMG PJ...the other has AFR's and they don't sound like EMG"s..much fuller sound...like it says...Active Full Range..
