My basses: Ibanez SR1200E (purchased used)
Ibanez SR1345B (purchased new)
Story:
Had a 2002 SR405 (Korea) that I got used for a good price but didn't dig the sound of the stock pickups (DX5's) so I sold it to fund a 2021 SR605e which was a complete lemon (huge list of minor and major build flaws).
I returned the 605e and couldn't find any more of them in Canada from reputable/large dealers.
The wife was nice enough to let me increase my budget so I grabbed the SR1345B a few months back (a 2019 build).
Then I came across a used SR1200E (2012 build) for a good price and I couldn't help myself so I grabbed it last week, lol.
Beautiful! Love the gold hardware on the 1200
Also, totally jealous of the tuner layout on the 1345 - probably the only thing I don't like (minor quibble, really) about my two sr885s is having three tuners on the bass side, and two on the treble.

Bummer!! Yeah, it seems as though these basses would be absolutely incredible for the price but not until they can be more consistent with their QC. It surprises me considering how good the QC is on all the other Ibanez basses I've played in the 500 series (or higher), even those made during the last few years. Once they can start making those SR600 series' with Nordstrands to the same level as their 500 series I think the 600 series will be the new 'bass to get' and will unseat the 500 series from their popularity in this price range.

Thanks! Yeah the 1200 has some wear on it from the previous owner but overall its in good shape without any major damage.
Yeah, I've become more accustomed to the 2x3 headstocks now after owning this 1345 for a little while and I tend to prefer it now aesthetically.
Much betterer.

I've one of the older sr1200s (a '96, I think), it's got a couple of small dings, and could use a fret job, but otherwise is pretty great!

Congrats to your new basses! How do you like the 1345 so far? I'm quite happy with mine, soundwise I had different sets of Nickelwounds on it (EB, Daddario) and the sound is fine! I have a set of Daddario Steel Wounds I got free from the Player's Circle Points, but first I have to use up the last set currently installed.

Build wise there are some scratches on the finish from a fellow bassist and friend of mine who slapped 2-3 h on it. The laquer is very thin so this will happen over time for sure... Other than that nothing to complain.
On your 1345 - is the volume in active mode much higher than in passive? The level on mine in active is much higher than in passive and also higher than other active basses.
Any Grooveline owner here? One of the Ibanez basses that always intrigued me!

I have the stock D'addario strings on it still but I got a free set of Ernie Ball 45-130 set, so I'm going to put those on at a later date.
Yeah, I anticipate the finish will wear eventually, but that doesn't bother me much.
I am a predominantly a guitarist so I don't have a lot of experience with basses but yes I do feel like active mode has a large volume boost. Relative to the 1200E I have its definitely noticeable. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with pickup height--my 1200E has the pickups lower down and my 1345B has pickups closer to the strings. I haven't had time to play with pickup height yet but it could be that, or maybe the preamps have a lot more juice now than they did back in 2012? I would say most of the time I'm just in passive mode anyways on the 1345B, although I am more likely to use the active mode on the 1200E--again, I think it may be pickup height related.
I'm so confused about whether to ask here or the Ibanez thread...but!

Some help or advice if I may, please. Depending on whether or not I like the stock active ADX5s in it, are there any recommended drop-in replacements? I play mostly metal and post-punk.
For actives, there's the option of the EMG, Fishmans and Seymour Duncans which I'm not entirely sold on.
I noticed Bartolini make two similar sized pickups - the 5-String Classic Bass CF Soapbar - CF5CBC - Bartolini Pickups & Electronics and 5-String Classic Bass M4 Soapbar - M45CBC - Bartolini Pickups & Electronics. The CBC is touted as being a direct replacement for older Ibanez, and has slightly different physical dimensions than the MBC that is the EMG40 size.
The Nordstrand Big Split in the current range of Soundgear sound cool too, and assume I'd need an EMG40-sized 16.5mm spaced?
Lastly, I'm still a little confused about how actives vs passives work for basses as I am primarily a guitarist.
Am I right in assuming that if I decided on passives and I wished to use the preamp, it would need the 9V hooked up still to power the preamp? If I chose actives, I'd likely need to also replace the pots?

I think Nordstrand will make pickups to suit particular and odd sizes at a reasonable cost. I had a Big Split made to replace my bridge pickup which is a slightly off size and it was not much more expensive than buying an over-the-counter one here in Australia.
I've always been an "active" pickup advocate, but the passive switch feature on the SRMS805 is sweet. The passive setting sounds better with my Rumble Stage 800 presets... however I do like the active tones through my Ampeg PF500. The bart pickups on the SRMS are just as good as the ones on my '04 SR506... no dropoff in quality. Kudos to Ibanez for keeping up the excellence over the years.
I am just wondering if you have any information/experience to pass on as I just purchased this bass (new) but haven't received it yet. I am very excited to have found one and love the colouring and finish.
Do you play it? Do you still enjoy it?
Any other TBers have this bass? I don't think there are too many of them out there in the wild. I would love any feedback on the bass/pups etc.

There's a late 90's Ibanez SR480 4-string on Reverb right now in excellent condition and somebody should snatch it up. I bought one of these used from a TB'er easily 12 years ago and after some modding it's been mostly my main player.
This one has the natural oiled mahogany body, the hardware all looks like it's in great shape and the price is good. These have a real feel of quality.
