My one teeeny criticism of the SR500 shaped soundgears is that they are uncomfortable for me to play whilst seated. The lower horn is shaped funny on the underside, so it digs in to my leg. Anyone else experienced that?

New family photo - the 505M arrived today
So any difference in sound due to the maple neck on that? I know even similar basses will sound different, too many variables, but just curious if there was a very noticeable difference for you with those two particular ones.

Let me tear myself away from these beauties for a minute and ask another question or two. I keep seeing older 1205s here and there for sale. What's the scoop on those - type of pickups, electronics, thin neck? They are generally in the $500 range which would also get you a used 705 of the newer design. How would those compare?
Also, I notice the electronics on the 1205s have four pots and it looks like one is stacked - what is the arrangement of controls? Thanks.

Although I don't know much about older Ibbys, I was kind of thinking that the 1205 in the old lineup would be more or less eqivalent to the 705 in the new line. The 705s have Barts and a pretty nice fit and finish. Pretty close to the top of the line of offshore Ibanez basses. Wouldn't that be true of the 1205s in there day or am I missing something?

The 1205 would be closest to the SRTs or the last generation SR905, like mine. Most of the NT SRs are made in Korea, not sure why, but I believe it has to do with Fujigen not having the machinery to make them. I could be wrong. The NT SR1000s from the mid 2000s were all MIK. Anyway, the older 1205 is a pre-prestige high end, like the 1015s and 1305s. They also have ADX5 (active) pickups.
+1. I'd replace the pickups on either. Nothing against the 705 but I really like the older 5 string neck profile.
Well, it turns out the pricing wasn't apples to apples. The 1205s were 500-550 and I discovered the other bass was a 755 at $379 WITH CASE. I just couldn't turn that deal down, so I pulled the trigger.
aproud1, I expect to replace at least the neck pickup with an MK4. I did that on my 700 and have been very pleased with the results.

I picked up a older SR405 yesterday. I'll post pic's when the weather is nicer and I can get a good one. Im now debating on wether or not to swap the nut for one I can tune E-C or not. That was the main reason for wanting a 5 string, but I have to admit the low B is kinda cool. I just think I'll play it more tuned E-C than B-G

I was looking hard at 405s when I stumbled across the 755. I actually like the pickups in the 405s better for some things. And my plan is the same as yours - to tune E-C, but I'm also going to give the B-G thing a try before I swap it out. So it looks like we're on parallel paths for the moment.
