They are basically the same exact bass (hardware / electronics / pu's as well as physical dimensions) except the 605's body is ash, and the 505 is mahogany. Both wood types are nearly the same density. No sound difference.

Try to get a 2010 or newer with the mid frequency switch.

I have an SR600, and it's beautiful - much better looking than the brownish-red 505 IMO.

Here's my SR600. Its one of those instruments that almost plays itself. Just feels so right to play. Compared to the reverend, the SR600 doesn't sound as beefy or thick, though its modern tone really makes it a fantastic solo instrument. My SR has displaced my reverend as my go-to bass since I bought it last year.

Nice lava swirl fish! Almost bought one in that finish but ended up with a bugeye. Super cool basses but I'd have to say that Ibanez ergonomics win for me.

My SR600 arrived today, but with a problem with the pickups.

Pity it will have to go back, as it was a nice example - nice wood etc.


Each pickup was fine solo'd, but when on together, they cancelled each other out on the E and A string.

Phasing issue, maybe one mounted upside-down or wired backwards


Is the SR500's mahogany body really different soundwise to the ash? Tempted to take advantage of the return to switch

Very nice..come up a treat with the waxing..plastic knobs for the volume and balancer?? i think youll find they had the rubber ones as stock...the best looking one of these was the SM Saman model made of wood from the Phillipines... its like a coffee cake swirl...absolutely gorgeous with antique gold harware..AFR PJ and vari mid...i nearly bought one of those in 97..its the ''one that got away'' for me

I have the original knobs and strap buttons. I swapped out for those as I don't like the rubber knobs and I don't think knobs exist in "pearl gold."

The Saman bodies were nice, I wouldn't mind having one, provided one can actually be found for sale.

This bass had definitely cured my GAS for a while.

I've noticed recently that both Sam Ash and Guitar Center list SR370/SR375 fretless basses. GC even claims to have them in stock and from the description of the parts they sound like 2012 models even though no fretless SRs are listed on the Ibanez website. I was thinking about asking here if anyone knows what gives but I've already gotten a response on the Ibanez company forum confirming that they are real, they are already shipping to dealers, and they will appear on the website in June.

Just in case anyone else might be interested....
