A big part of it is playability. The Japanese made models are insanely comfortable. They also have better hardware (real Gotohs vs "gotoh style") and the monorail I bridge is stupid easy to setup. The electronics are also very good. But it's also about timing, I buy used and when the right piece comes along at the right price, I jump on it. That's probably the biggest factor.

it's nothing special, infact, it's quite UNspecial.

My first bass was a blue sdgr 800. I loved it. Got an amazing deal at a pawn shop. I changed hobbies and sold it around 2003 to buy paintball stuff.
Found this little gem on CL a couple years ago. Pretty cheap, but it does enough to get into the learning mode again.

I got the '71 Audiovox head for free. One of the "Fix it and it's yours" deals. I know an amazing electrician I work with and he checked all the wiring and replaced a couple of the tubes for me. It works like a gem, just a little rough cosmetically. If I can shine up the exterior I've seen them go for $400+. Not bad for a free head!

I found the Laney 1x15 2x10 at a local music shop. Decent deal on it, not a steal, but fair market value.

Here is my SRX705 that I still enjoy playing. And me new SR5XXV the new anniversary model. I love the way the new one plays. Still getting used to the sound.

Hi guys !

I am about to join the club ! But I hesitate between the sr505 and the sr605...

What's the differences between them ? I saw that the bridge wasn't the same and the wood of the body, but that doesn't help me choose between those. And I saw that the pickups on the 505 were passives but there's a battery slot... why ? Is the 605 lighter than the 505 ?

All I would like to know is, for the price, which one should i get ?

Passive pickups, Active EQ.

Me, personally I would buy the 505. if u really like the 605 u might as well save a bit more for the 705, then if u can get the 705 u might as well wait a bit longer and get the 1205.........then, if u can get the 1205...........:bassist:

Just to add to what greenbul said...

The pickups are passive but it has and active preamp (meaning you can boost and cut bass, mid, treble), pickups are usually passive with the exception of EMG and MEC pickups. The battery is to run the preamp and plugging a cable into your jack turns the preamp on.

The body wood is different. Ash 605 and Mahogany 505, the 500 offers the option of a maple fretboard, and the 605 has black hardware vs. the cosmo black on the 505. Everything else besides the finish is the same.

Ergonomics are pretty much the same too. So it comes down to preference. Me personally, I prefer the grain on ash and black hardware so I'd go 605. Resale value will be the same on both if that matters to you.

The ash body could be lighter or heavier depending on what kind of ash they use. all of the 505's on Sweetwater weigh in around 8 lbs. Neither bass should be much more than 9lbs. IME.

I saw the preamps are the same... so why is there a battery box on the 505 and not on the 605 ?

(Sorry for asking lot of questions, but I want to be sure :p )

And btw, I think I'll choose the 605 because I very like the cosmetics. :hyper:

didn't notice that difference. If there is no battery box that means the battery is under the electronics cover. For some people this is a big deal. For me it's just something else to make my beer storage locker uncomfortable while playing. Unless its in the right spot I prefer to not have a battery box.

all just my opinion.
