I haven't read the whole thread (I will later but its after midnight in London), but I joined an SR club today. I've got myself the 1205 premium and I am absolutely blown away. I was concerned about the narrower spacing but this proved to be no issue. I am hoping to check it out in our church tomorrow. Some pics later.
You're not the first (and won't be the last) to be amazed by these instruments. Without trying to, we feel like we've joined a secret club and one day the rest of the world will find us and the secret will be out. It's like knowing where there's a really good sale on high quality merchandise and you're the only one that knows the special price. You just can't believe your luck and keep waiting for someone to tell you it isn't real. But it is. Ibanez high end basses are the best kept secret in the bass world.
I have an SR705 on lay-buy, only a few hundred more and I'll have it. It'll be good so have a bass with something other than jazz style pickups.
I really did not like the strings that came on my 1205. I put a set of dr nickel lo riders on. It helped but the B was just dead sounding. I put a set of d'addario chromes on and wow. I can not put this bass down.
How do you like those stock strings?
I see what you are saying mate, mine seemed sticky, like they've been played by multiple random people(read dirty hands) in the store(which they probably were), although bass was in mint condition not a single scratch. Sound wise they were ok, but I could not handle the feel. I did not have any fresh set of strings available but I swap them with my other bass which had 2 weeks old Slinky's on and I could not be happier. I had a bit of setting up to do but that was to be expected. It plays great now.

I've gone the other direction. Mine came with Elixirs which I had never played before. Absolutely fell in love with them and now I'm putting them on everything.
They are not at all sticky - quite the opposite - so maybe you're having a different experience (?). They are a coated string so they are smoother to the touch than similar non-coated strings. Not near as smooth as flats, but definitely smoother than a typical round.
And they last FOREVER.
The only funky weird thing is when they get old they get frayed - it's like tiny hairs where the coating wears out. That really annoyed me at first, but then I realized that that was happening after I'd already gotten 3 times the wear of a normal string.
Love the tone. The highs are not harsh and they are full and warm down low. Not as stiff as some string (which I like).

So I'll put pics of the 3006 up soon, I currently have it torn apart so I can clean up, recondition and wax the body. I just have the waxing left to do. So far, looks amazing

Wow!, that is amazing! Great job on the recondition. I'm still saving my pennies.........but soon i'll have something real nice.

I bought the SRX2EX2 first. Loved the sound and it has an incredibly straight neck.
Got the SRX3EXQM1 so that I'd have a prettier version of the White one.
Got the 700 to see what all the fuss is about with Barts. Love 'em, but also like the SRXs sound. SRX is closer to a Fender sound. The original pickup on the 700 sounded way too sizzly and jazzy for me. Replaced the neck PU with an MK4 which mellows it out a lot and makes it more useful.
Got the 755 to learn how to play with a C string. Really loving that. I just got lucky on this one since I bought it online - but the neck on this is as good as the SRX2. Those are two of the straightest necks I've ever seen on a bass. Tip my hat to the good folks at Ibanez.
P.S. Does anyone know where I can get some shorter knobs for the 755? They are tall and I keep bumping them.

Hey Dan,
For those of us who normally can't afford the over 1000 series Ibanez basses can you give some sort of info on why you prefer one over another? At that price point they all look beautiful, should all be well built, and seem to have one of several different electronic layouts (could be wrong about that). Is it a playability deal or something else?

The SR300 has lots of fans, and is a very good value! At round 2 of the "Battle of the Blues" at GC last night, I noticed the Metallic Orange version priced at $297.
