Over the years, I actually came to prefer bags over hard cases. Why? Because I'm getting older by the minute 
and I like shaving weight.
For me, hard cases are only necessary if you pack equipment with others - into the same truck.
I'm only a weekend warrior, and any equipment hauling is done individually. The gig bags I use are more than enough protection for the ride in my car.
BTW, just another plug for the Chromecast bags. They are really low cost, and IMHO, the quality is there. There's quite a bit of padding and protection.

Do you mean ChromaCast? I found some on Amazon, but the 10mm of padding seems pretty shy to me. I agree, for many, these may be all the bag you need, and you should probably check them out. After owning some cheap bags, I've realized that getting a better bag gives me more peace of mind. Good to know that the Strat case fits! I am sure I can find one on CL at some time.
I am torn about hard vs. soft cases. the bags are so much more convenient, but the only time I had a bass damaged was in a gig bag, and it was one of the special switches on a Warwick $$ and a super pain to replace. I do try to have a hard case for every bass to store them or for uncertain gigs. One of the RoadRunner foam cases might be a nice compromise for cost and weight.

I think it cost half the price of the Mini, in 2018. So what, the strings cost 1/4 the price of the bass hahaYou know that case costs almost as much as the Mini, right?
Have not heard of anyone doing 45 degree angle holes, but some have replaced the bridge and then drilled holes all the way to the back of the instrument. Seems to me that's an easier path to take. But careful measurement, jigs and planning should be used to get the best results.
I am thinking the 45 degree angle to get the most distance. We need around 1.5" to get to 30" Ball to Nut. The distance from the back of the bridge to the bottom corner of the body is close to that. I am working on some ideas on how to do this properly. I may ask for help from a friend that is a skilled modelmaker.
The Mini is the same length as a Strat but with a smaller body, so any electric guitar gigbag is a good fit.
a strat has a 3.1 inch shorter scale than a strat, but you never know.

body length - about 18"
lower bout - about 11"
so it seems like it could fit IF you get a case with a less fitted interior, since the waist and lower and upper bouts won't be the same shape or location on the body.

All cases and bags will vary a bit, but my Mini P fit in a cheapo Fender gig bag (designed for guitars) and it also fit perfectly into a gator light weight guitar "soft case" (the square kind made out of dura-fabric). I think my preferred case would be the Gator (or similar) lightweight case. Have not yet tried a G&G style case, but based on how tightly strats and teles fit into those, my guess is that it would not work for the Mini P.
All I know is my Mini P rattles around inside a Fender Short Scale Bass gig bag (FBSS-610) like a pea in a whistle. I'm keeping my eyes open for a cheap FE620 ("Strat") bag in the want ads.
