Thanks to all the good info here, I'm getting one of these little guys for a travel bass. Can anyone recommend a cheap Strat gig bag that fits? Some of them seem a little tight based on the 39" interior length I've seen quoted here.
New vintage mint green pickguard for my Mini P. Much better than the toilet seat it came with 
I just ordered a red mini and a sheet of tort to make a new guard. Also have LaBella's coming for it.
If I could make my own pickguards I would buy some of these sheets

it looks really fake and the print is blurry plus the black and white 4-ply thickness looks bad next to it.
If I could make my own pickguards I would buy some of these sheets

Amazon sells them for 20.00. If you have a jigsaw and a dremel, it's pretty easy.

I'd love to give that a shot, too, but I just know (for me,anyway,) it would inevitably turn into a disappointing, teeth-gnashing-grind-from-hell !!

Agreed, that factory PG is pretty weak. As I've mentioned before, I followed the advice of someone here last year, and gave both my Bronco and later my mini P, several coats of Krylon Fusion in black satin, and it came out way better than expected, and only a fraction of the cost of a nice aftermarket PG ( I still wants me a classic tort guard, though!)I hear you! I've done a couple small ones, and they came out pretty good. This one should be acceptable...Anything is better than "Starter pack white"
I made some nice progress this weekend on my Red Mini project while I wait for the Mahogany Mini to be finished up by the Luthier. I sanded off the Squier logo and finish on the front of the headstock and applied my logo and 6 coats of Tru-oil over it. Added the Luminlay glow side dot material and took out the fretboard inlays. The fretboard inlays came out fairly easy except for the last 3 that are being a bit stubborn. I have a pre-cut Brass nut that is 1 & 1/2" that I have been wanting to use and I decided to add Maple wood fretboard inlays that I found for $7 for 24 of them. I think they will look good after getting them installed. I also shielded the pickup and control cavity and added the Hipshot A style bridge and ground wire. I'll post some more progress pics as it comes along

Hipshot USA vs Licensed tuners?
Clearly when you're upgrading a $200 bass you want to be sensible about it. I'll be swapping the stock tuners for Hipshots. I can get the USA model for about $50 more (for a set of 4) than a set of the Licensed model. Worth it?

Did you completely rework the stock wiring and use new pots/switch? If so, would you mind sharing what you used? I'm also going the Relentless route. I've never wired my own P-Bass - my EMG GZR on my other bass were plug-and-play. I read you need to use mini pots on the Mini-P?
In my case I wanted the 3/8" Mini Clover ultralites but I could only find those as USA tuners. I kinda look at it as I am getting a decent body and neck for $200 since I don't even use a single original part or screw from the Squier.
I used the (Best Bass Gear) pre wired harness and they use the smaller pots anyway so it worked out great. I have seen some on here use regular size CTS pots...It is tight but they say they do fit. The relentless pickups are really great pickups and have good output.
They are Noble 250k Audio Taper Potentiometers. I added a PureTone 1/4" jack.
