The Squier Mini Precision Bass Club

Could one of you do something for me? I'll make it worth your while. I need a straight overhead photo of a mini p-bass pickguard against a contrasting color. I also need an accurate dimension for scaling in my CAD software. If you can give me the exact size of a pickup hole (preferably in mm) I'll be able to scale it just right. Ideally the pickguard would be by itself, not attached to the guitar. If it is attached, then taking the knobs off would help so that I can see what size to make the holes for the knobs.
I'll be happy to send a free pick guard to someone who does this. I just need a really clear photo (but not at an angle. It has to be from above, centered, and the camera level) and the size of a pickup hole.
I'll 3D print a couple this weekend as an experiment.
I also have a CNC machine, so it might be fun to cut one out of a veneer of an exotic wood or other material.
PS: I'm finding plenty of great images of a standard P-bass pickguard, but I have no idea if it's exactly the same as the mini p-bass pickguard but in smaller form. There might be differences that scaling alone won't solve.

Here's a pic of the guard from way above, hopefully to remove most of the perspective. The grids are at 1 inch pitch. I also scanned it for you. I'll go get you the dimensions of the pickups holes, but they are identical to a regular PBass.

Anybody experienced any neck dive with the Squier Mini?
And do the frets need filing/dressing because of unleveled height or fret sprouting?
I am gassing a bit for this little bass but I have no chance to try one in a shop where I live.

I didn't notice any neck dive with the brief time I spent with it. The fret ends were all sharp on mine and two of the frets needed some leveling. I did the dressing and leveling myself, now if feels great.

I've gotten fat!
The frets could be better dressed, but are more than adequate to do whatever needs to be done comfortably. I have no high frets, nor any sharp edges.
I'm going to bring it to my next rehearsal on Wednesday for an extended run, and see how it plays with others.

I received my Mini a few days ago from Sweetwater. First short scale, by the way. Seems like my experiences are similar to others here.
• Weight is 5.4 pounds, which is ridiculous.
• Neck profile and fret distances works well for me.
• Build quality is decent, given the price point.
• The strap buttons and knobs definitely need to be swapped out.
• The pickup housing is very sharp. Bleah. I might put on a thumb rest.
• The electronics are quiet, but a little… odd? It seems like the tone knob doesn’t work unless the volume is all the way up.
• Aesthetically, it’s OK. As in, from a few feet away, it doesn’t look like a super-cheap instrument. I think 34" scale basses look a little big on me; I also doubt that any non-bassists would notice that it's smaller than a typical bass.
• I try not to be a tone snob, but... the tone is just OK, it's not as full as my other P/J basses. Could be the strings, could be the pickup, could be my ears, might work for some genres better than others. I'm still trying to dial in a good basic tone using SVT-style preamps.
Although the tone isn't quite there, the light weight and playability are huge benefits. I can play in comfort all day long, and it is so cheap I can afford to mod it as I like.
I plan to give it a few weeks with the factory strings. If that doesn't cut it, I might swap out the pickup.

I forgot to mention this Saturday. The tech who worked on my bass plays with other national players - and techs for multiple national bands. When he handed the bass back to me, he said he was amazed at the weight and tone, and he was getting one himself asap. And that comes from someone who has had his hands on a ton of guitars.

That's almost as light as a hollow body Hofner violin or club bass !
If only the neck was was as wide at the nut as Fender misrepresents it to be....

wow, i wish that i would get one that light!
you have PJs - could it be that you like PJs more than Ps? i know i usually do. i've already decided on which pickup to replace the mini's with if i don't care for it after a few weeks and maybe a string change.
Yeah, there's a lot of subjectivity here, someone else might love the exact tone of mine. That said, I prefer the tone on my other basses even when soloing the neck pickup. It's certainly possible I'll end up installing a Norstrand. If so, I'd wind up spending almost as much on the pickup as on the entire bass.
While I didn't need another bass in the first place, I am seriously considering getting a 2nd Mini and stashing it. This seems like one of those things they won't make forever.
I'd also be thrilled if they make a Mini J. Fingers crossed.
I regularly switch between 4-string, 5-string, and the occasional EUB. Given all the other advantages, I'm not going to send it back because the spec sheet is off by 0.1" on a sub-$200 instrument.If only the neck was was as wide at the nut as Fender misrepresents it to be....

Agreed. They are unpredictable. Who knows if it will be in the catalog next year.
The last Fender Squier I owned was a Short Scale VM Jaguar Bass. I thought it was an amazing build for the price. I imagine they sold well. An yet, I don't think those are in production anymore.
I'm like you - thinking in terms of a backup if it is a bass I think I am going to play out with.
