White wires are usually not grounds (black are).
Referencing your diagram, his loose white wire is most likely from the center terminal of the volume pot (11), to the tip terminal of the output jack (15).
It should look a bit like this:

My red one arrived yesterday. I didn't know they had a mini strat. I guess I'll be getting that, too.
ETA: I just ordered the Mini Strat. Ugh.
i didn't care for the mini strat's neck profile. i'll be interested to know what you think.
Mini CV
I've got the CV 60's pickups/harness in, CV bridge installed, all the cavities have been copper-taped, the carbon fiber pickguard is done, the walnut truss rod accent is in and flushed, and the neck is getting some color now.

I'm not good enough to be able to tell. I just wanted the matching set.
I am going to take the bass with me on the road when I'm working. Perfect size.
Anyway - Rather than attempt something that will end badly
Please don't take this the wrong way, because I respect you, as well as enjoy and follow all your posts in various threads. But there is something to be said for just enjoying a new bass as is for a month or two and finding out what you like and don't like before messing around with it.
I've had my mini P for over a month now and while I would love to put a tort pickguard on it and other stuff, I have just been playing it stock - even resisting changing the strings over to Chromes until I'm sure about what I have. Do I necessarily like it this way?... No. But in about a month or two I will decide what I want to do to it and maybe change the pickguard and at the same time put the Chromes on it.... maybe even some other stuff. I'd rather evaluate the bass on its own merits, rather than risk messing it up myself - for now. Until then, I'm just enjoying it as is. Just my two cents.
Shielding has been discussed elsewhere, so here are some inside views of mine...
The routing for the pickups and control cavity is fairly well shielded, and grounded. I wish they woulda blown the dust out before shielding, but it's not that big a deal, really. I don't see this area anyway once the pickguard is on.
Wiring seems solidly soldered to me. At least, no wires seem to be in danger of coming off with casual handling. The rosin spatter screams "hand soldered" to me, so this may vary from bass to bass.

I want to replace the pickguard. I have it narrowed to Pearloid Black, or Pearloid Mint Green. This is for the red one. I have the mini Strat on the way also. Any other color suggestions would be welcome. Other than the pickguards, I'm going to leave them alone.

I have no idea what the idea was with these strap buttons, they look great in the trash though. I replaced them personally, so I can strap the bassI want to replace the pickguard. Do you guys mean that the strap buttons are too small?
I always use one of those rubber washers to semi lock the strap, and it works well with any size strap button.
In other news, my guitar tech texted me, and my bass is alive and well - after a wiring repair and setup.

i'm thinking of going with pearloid white on my up-and-coming red one.
i'm going to leave mine alone for a while, but if i don't love the tone, i may drop in a fender pure vintage '63 pickup.
Could one of you do something for me? I'll make it worth your while. I need a straight overhead photo of a mini p-bass pickguard against a contrasting color. I also need an accurate dimension for scaling in my CAD software. If you can give me the exact size of a pickup hole (preferably in mm) I'll be able to scale it just right. Ideally the pickguard would be by itself, not attached to the guitar. If it is attached, then taking the knobs off would help so that I can see what size to make the holes for the knobs.

Rubber washers are loose on these strap buttons, hence my lack of understanding as to why these strap buttons even exist.
It is the only part of the bass that looks like it was done by a toy designer, yet there are so many standard penny priced buttons that would work fine, yet Squier decided to produce specific buttons. So it doesn't even make sense if money was the reason.
I think someone at Squier wanted to make a toy, changed idea half way and decided to make it a real instrument, but forgot to redesign the strap buttons.

Great minds and all that rot. White pearloid is classic/classy against Dakota Red. I put Red Pearl inlay stickers on mine, as well. A white pearloid pickguard would complete the "pumps and pearls" vibe.
