I have both. They're both super fun to play, and both sound pretty damn good!
My Bronco is a Badtz Maru (Hello Kitty) special edition, and has a different/"hotter" pickup than a regular one. It's still a 6 pole guitar pickup, tho. I strung it with GHS Precision Flats, and it has a deep fundamental growl.
The Mini is strung with Ibanez Mikro strings on the E-D, with a Stagg 045 nickel roundwound on the G. It sounds like a P with rounds, and is amazingly responsive to plucking positions and style.
I haven't gigged the Mini yet, so can't really comment on that aspect, but the home playing has been fine.
The Bronco is a few ounces heavier than the Mini.
The Mini will fit perfectly in a Stratocaster case/bag.
i'll wait till friday in case i can get a discount for the holiday, and i've got some musicians friend points to apply to the purchase, as well...
I'm thinking mint green pearloid for my red one. I'll buy a blank, and have the guy I go to cut it. He does great work. Did you do the artwork yourself? It's amazing.
All three are different but I’d say there is more similar between the Mustang and the Mini. Both with split pickups and fully adjustable bridges. I’ve never played a Mustang but I love the look.
I own a Bronco and they absolutely need a new pickup. The stock pickup is just trash. Depending on what strings you put on a Bronco, the two saddle bridge may not let you intonate both strings on each saddle perfectly.
The Bronco is heavier than the Mini by quite a bit. The body is more similar to that of a regular scale bass, but still smaller. The Mini is literally a shrunken down P Bass, like you left it too long in the dryer.
Also, my Mini got it’s two most important mods yet today.
If it's the United States: Labor Day (we do it in September instead of May for some reason).
Companies here love to run sales on every holiday weekend. Our Labor Day is always the first Monday of September, which in this case is the 7th.
I don't watch the sale patterns much, but, at the low price point of the Mini, as well as my perceived shrinking stock of it, I would bet against it being on sale.
I bought it for my kids and it is quite nice (same level of quality as the bass).
But the cream pickguard looks better i think (better in real life than on the picture).
i got my bronco for $129 when they were selling for $149 on a holiday. if the mini isn't on sale, no problem - and i have my $40 of MF points to use
Sweet. The red really pops in that picture. Even though they are lazy with only the two colors, that red looks quite good. I imagine that with a pickguard replacement would be quite sharp for a 180 dollar bass.
Shh, don't tell anyone, but, if I ever sell off some other stuff - which I have been trying to do - I might just top secretly buy a Second Mini - the red one.
I have all the materials for my pickguard wrap now. Especially heat gun courtesy of Home Depot. I have been super busy at work, so it hasn't happened yet, and I'm procrastinating a little because I don't want it to mess up. But, I will jump in the cold water very soon.
I think your procrastinated over nothing - besides setting it on fire what could possibly go wrong?

I snuck some time in during lunch and gave it a go.
Complete disaster for me. I'm either going out to buy Plasti Dip, or, buttoning her back up and bailing.
For my unskilled hands, that vinyl wrap is a no go for this type of project. Bummer. [I'm not surprised]

question - did you try and cut out the vinyl wrap to put directly on the bass or did you stick it to the pickguard and cut around it? i also have unskilled hands, and the second is what i'd do... since there's virtually no chance i could pull of the first.
or did i misremember and were you trying to wrap the entire bass?
