Regarding that Solo Mini P Bass Kit, it would not bother me at all if it was 30 inch scale, as long as the nut turns out to be 1.6" or wider.
They have sent an auto-reply to my inquiry of a few hours ago at their website, quoting what I asked.
I will update with what they tell me if/when they do.
I did not ask them to confirm the scale length, but maybe I should have, eh ?
They do already state in their description "The total length of the assembled bass is 40 inches", if that is any indication.
How long is a Squier Mini P bass, for comparison ?

The 11 pounds is hopefully the shipping weight.
I did query them for the net weight, as posted during the wee hours, and I'll let y'all know what they tell me.

Thanks, it is my first bass ever, an Ibanez ATK 300 I purchased in 96 with money I saved over a couple summer jobs. It is next to the mini as this thing is a boat anchor compared to my other basses (11lbs)
I really wanted an EBMM but they were really expensive in the EU and the ATK was labelled as the EBMM killer. I'd like to get an EBMM today just to assert that claim, but boy are they expensive.
Great bass! Also if you like wide nuts, this thing has it!

OK, Solo was quick to follow up with the info which I requested.
Here is the relevant part :
So the nut width looks good, the strings, who knows what they'll be as far as wound length, feel, and sound, and I would replace them anyway, but some of you might appreciate the info.
If the weight is truly 9-10 pounds, my Ric 4001 is in that range, and so are most full scale Fenders.
A new Jay Turser Mini P, in trans red, is looking more attractive by the minute, is 30" scale, wider nut, weighs less, and would not require any finish to be added.
No Maple fretboard though, but I could excuse that.
And buying a JT would in part support a Canadian business.
I have found at least two Canadian sellers of JT which claim to have the JTB-40 in stock.

I thought it was 11Lbs, but I am reading now everywhere that it is closer to 9.5 Lbs. Still an anchor....
It’s not about the mods and the rules, it’s about how bloody tired some of us are about hearing about how big your nuts should be.
Always interesting for the sake of comparison. I think as more people buy the Mini P, the topics in this thread will naturally shift more towards mods etc.
Perhaps there should be a separate post started for alternatives to Squier Mini P, however it should be noted that this thread only became the Squier Mini P Club thread yesterday. The discussions of whether to purchase one and alternatives to it started long ago, when it was just 'hey, there's a new Squier Mini P out'.

Looks like it's happening sooner than some folks anticipated.
But lower priced instruments have always been more likely candidates for modding.
You are not risking hurting the value of something more expensive, and frequently end up INCREASING the value instead, when modding budget-priced ones.

It happens quickly enough in a thread named after just one model.
Case in point :
As of yesterday, I've been looking at a 100+ page thread just about GHS Precision Flats strings, a thread which began in 2013, and it wasn't two pages in, that someone made comparisons with other flatwounds, which I did NOT at all mind reading.
The thread would be less informative if other similar products were not mentioned, nor the comparative pros and cons of each.
And in my own defense, that's all which I have been doing here, after initially pointing out a significant flaw in Fender's data management and presentation.

The fretwire has a short scale kit, too. It has a 1.625" nut width and maple fretboard.

And it has a regular 30" short scale, so fairly easy to find a variety of strings which will fit properly.

They look to have answered most of my questions without me asking, regarding the instrument itself.
Just have to investigate the shipping choices into Canada, and associated cost.
UPDATE : It is close to $90 US by using UPS 'Expedited' service, for the seller's lowest priced shipping choice to Canada, which is similar to buying a single bass [including the Squier Mini P and others] from Thomann in Germany, as mentioned upthread.
That much shipping cost often negates the apparent saving offered by some sellers, making it a better deal to buy [if buying one at a time of] whatever instrument from a source inside of one's own country, in my instance, Canada.
BTW, for not much more money than the above-linked model, this seller offers a bass which is similar to the recently disco'd Squier Short Scale Jaguar series.
