Hipshot Ultralite LIC Tuner HB6C 3/8 Satin Chrome - Single Bass tuner | eBay

Would the black 3/8 HB6Y Lic Hipshots also be easy 'drop-ins'? They look the same as the HB6C's except for the color... At about $15 apiece I'm thinking it wouldn't be that much of an expense for a performance (and looks) improvement for my black Mikro... ;<)}

Wow so these are a perfect drop in, as in I won't have to mess with reaming and drilling? cause I can't do that stuff

I had to take a piece of 120 grit sandpaper to mine to open the hole a bit, but that was beacuse of the lacquer I sprayed on it. I just wrapped it around a Sharpie and sanded both sides of the holes.

Some folks on TB have said in the past that the Licensed Hipshots are not as good.

Anybody have further thoughts on this today ?

The linked ebay seller 'sporthitech' has offered both types for a long time, and prices the USA ones much higher than these.

The LIC ones are WAAAYYY better than the stock tuners, so I'm completely happy with not spending ~$100 for the USA ones.

I don't see why not. If there are any clearance issues, just wrap 120 grit or so sandpaper around a Sharpie and open the hole up.

I stripped the whole neck, had a custom decal made, and sprayed it with a vintage amber lacquer I mixed up.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that my #2 has a thicker neck with dimensions not matching #1.

These things are CNC'd, and that should not be perceivable, but I really believe I am perceiving a chunkier neck #2 than #1.

That's whatcha get for buying TWO of them !

You could get one of those fancy digital calipers like Volker has, and start measuring to compare things.

Seriously, there are other possible [mostly non-CNC] variances between the instruments :

Choice of strings
Action
Neck relief
Grooves in nut not consistent depth
Using different frets on each

In general it's a low cost instrument [ya, I know that the manufacturing is supposed to be CNC-driven, but who knows with Fender these days, the recent master of specs inconsistencies, as I personally have discovered in what has been published for at least 3 current models of their short scale basses, while web-shopping]

since they're the handiest way to measure things like neck depth super easily, why not get some from amazon for under $20 - just search "digital calipers".

Heh. I found that parts sell much quicker if I include caliper pics of the item, as opposed to simply listing dimensions in the ad. People won't read, but they will look at pictures.

I’m going to try to do the vintage amber nitro lacquer to my daughters red mini p neck. Any tips? Do I need to strip it before applying?
