If it wasn't for the proper [winding length, and choice of gauges] string sourcing BS for extra short scale basses, I would agree.

Especially flatwounds.

Solve those problems first, and I'd even try a Strat [25.5"] scale bass.

I totally agree. I really like maple fretboards ever since my friend and bandmate Marty Winecoop special order a 67 Tele guitar with a maple fretboard which he called a "bonded neck" a term which has stuck with me in the 53 some odd years since. I lost track of Marty but never forgot that Tele of his. I want to get a maple fret-boarded bass some time but would really prefer it on a Mini Precision since the Min i is my favorite bass

In one regard, it could appear strange that I like Maple fingerboards.

Knowing that I have owned and exclusively played a Ric 4001 for several decades, a person might ask why I speak of preferring Maple for the fingerboard.

Having given it some thought....

Maybe it is that the Ric instruments have lacquered fingerboards, even though not Maple, and it therefive might be the character [feel] of the lacquer which I have grown to like, compared to the unfinished rosewood fingerboards of most other basses' necks.

I'm not sure how the sound is affected by the choice of fingerboard wood and optional finish.

I suppose that if someone other than Ric [or than an even more costly boutique brand] was to offer a bass with some other fingerboard wood than Maple with a finish on it, for a moderate price, I would check it out.

Andertons went halfs with Chicago Music Exchange so half went to USA and half went to UK.
It was the squier purple jazzmaster i believe.

So all we need is $150,000.

I, too, would love a maple fretboard Mini. I have always preferred the feel of a maple fretboard to rosewood, or in our case, "laurel".

It's interesting to hear those numbers come out of Fender. Because, there are Many quality factories overseas that would gladly build Anything - going down to as low as a lot of 10. When I had my Picco bass built, I actually talked a very high quality builder into lots even smaller than that.

We actually already sorta have a maple neck option - the Solo Mini P Bass kit.

I'm just not inclined at this time in my life to take on a kit. Came close to ordering, but I just don't have the space to do a kit build justice right now.

I just crunched the numbers, and if we take the median of 400 units among $150,000 , that would be $375 each.

Since [IIRC] the CME Squier Shell Pink Broncos sold for about $300 USD street price, those purple Squier Jazzmasters must have been a fair bit more expensive to the consumer.

But that is the only info which we have so far, to make a guess about costing out an FSR.

dayum! when one of our local guitar stores wanted a custom martin acoustic, they only required him to order 25 units - and it was their lower end 15 series.

Martin used to make one-off custom acoustics to order, so long as they were based on one of their many existing model bodies. Guild, too

I have noticed that we both visit a few other threads regularly, which seem to have one or another short scale bass as their raison d'etre, in my instance the [newest sections of the] clubs of the Squier Jaguar SS, Mustang, and Hofner basses.

The bass currently adorning my avatar [something is in there, finally !] is a medium scale, so I sometimes visit that club too [it's an Ibanez RS721 Roadster, from the early 80s, BTW].

There are surely further threads which I ought to visit.

I have a Jag Bass and my very first bass was a 67 Mustang which was a better bass than I was a player so
Bought a Gibson EB-O to take care of my shortcomings-------now 50- years later I think I have the moxie to [play the Mustang to its potential.
