While my preference is for TOS, STV--the only Star Trek movie I feel no need to ever watch again.
But if I keep checking out SNW--I'll get to that as well.

I hadn’t watched V in a long time. Some of the “space” visual effects are ok but some are really awful. Some of the dialog is cringeworthy. Likewise some attempts at humor.

But Laurence Luckinbill (whoever he is) is pretty good as Sybok. Sybok can definitely be used as a villain in SNW. He’s canon! ;)

This trivia just in: Luckinbill was married to Lucie Arnaz, daughter of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball.

With nothing much else on worth watching these days - I've been re-watching all the Voyager series & some NG shows. I think Voyager has the most elegant theme song, and visuals. The cast is great, and Robert Picardo just nails the EMH doctor role.
I think all the theme songs are great in their own right,.. I even like the Enterprise one.
Picardo was amazing. Best doctor of any series... followed by Bashir..
While Voyager was a fun series, Janeway killed me as the captain.. she made bad decision after bad decision. She violated the prime directive when she didn't need to and didn't do it when it made total sense.. she really frustrated me as the captain.
Having said that I have rewatched that series more than any other..

I just watched the movie "Star Trek: Beyond", which I had never seen before.

What a colossal waste of my time.

Nothing but explosions and fights - in space, on board spaceships, and everywhere else.

The good guys win skirmishes and battles through the most ridiculously implausible (and downright cheesy) circumstances. The continuity of what passes for a plot in the movie is barely held together with the most lame, contrived dialogue.

Explosions, fights, and meaningless babble, all of it smothered in grade A cheese.

This movie is a lot more like a superhero comic book turned into a movie than a serious Star Trek story.

nothing beats Return of the Jedi.. the Star Wars franchise lost me when the "care bears" beat the Empire

I recently saw a news story about when they auctioned off the Ressikan flute prop from the TNG episode "The Inner Light" and I realized that I haven't watched that episode in probably 20 years.

So I rewatched it yesterday and it was even better than I remembered. Stewart's acting was just perfect - and so moving.

Of course the final scene got me. It goes without saying.
:D

Seen the SNW 1st season finale.
As I recently noted,

Apart from that, and the fact I overall like the series: same new ST going out of its way to prove classic ST wrong while pretending to homage it. It got old halfway through the first JJ Trek movie, and still is.

I don't understand your spin on the last episode but that's ok. Normally I hate the time travel gimmick too but "seeing" future events isn't really time travel. Klingon Time Crystal and all.

I really like SNW so far. It feels very faithful to its setting and time in the ST universe.

My only complaint is with episode 8, The Elysian Kingdom. It just feels too early in the series to do a “sillly” episode, where we see the characters playing against their types. IMHO, the viewers just don’t know them well enough for that yet. I’m sure the writers have been “getting to know“ these characters for months before this episode went into production, so maybe it feels more natural to them. Too soon for me, though... :cautious:

Agreed, that was our least favorite episode. We are also not big fans of time travel, so we were not real pleased with the season finale, but it was OK as far as time travel episodes go. I am also not a fan of "re-doing" existing episodes of earlier series. But again, it was mildly entertaining. Overall, we like SNW and are looking forward to the next season.

The silly part I actually liked quite a bit (Christina Chong as La'an as the fainty princess was delightful, as was Mount); I didn't love the ending.

I hate the way the Enterprise looks. It looks like 500 people all had input on its design and all 500 opinions were used. Little boy Spock is difficult to take seriously. They're trying to put all the wisdom and gravitas of this legendary character into a younger version played by this too-young looking actor who doesn't seem to understand that stoic half concealed grins doesn't equal emotional suppression. I don't like the unprofessionalism amongst the crew. Laughing and joking with each other about aliens that don't know about space travel running loose on the ship? Then Rebecca Romain talks about what's supposed to be the most classified ship that's ever existed in an elevator full of people that weren't involved? Low orbit does not mean in the clouds. Why is there an Andorian on the Enterprise crew? You figured they would've mentioned one was in Starfleet years later when Sarek was negotiating peace between Andorians and Tellerites on the very same poopie where apparently Jim Kirk's brother serviced with a mustache that's definitely not part of the uniform code. I have six days for nine more episodes.

I don't know if I should be impressed or concerned that you know so much about the canon.
I enjoyed the show..
