I hate the way the Enterprise looks. It looks like 500 people all had input on its design and all 500 opinions were used. Little boy Spock is difficult to take seriously. They're trying to put all the wisdom and gravitas of this legendary character into a younger version played by this too-young looking actor who doesn't seem to understand that stoic half concealed grins doesn't equal emotional suppression. I don't like the unprofessionalism amongst the crew. Laughing and joking with each other about aliens that don't know about space travel running loose on the ship? Then Rebecca Romain talks about what's supposed to be the most classified ship that's ever existed in an elevator full of people that weren't involved? Low orbit does not mean in the clouds. Why is there an Andorian on the Enterprise crew? You figured they would've mentioned one was in Starfleet years later when Sarek was negotiating peace between Andorians and Tellerites on the very same poopie where apparently Jim Kirk's brother serviced with a mustache that's definitely not part of the uniform code. I have six days for nine more episodes.

You could do the same kind of analysis of any TOS episode and come up with equally damning conclusions. Just saying.

Three episodes in. I don't hate it. Star Trek things happened. Pike is great. Uhura is very good. As is the doctor. Everyone else is forgettable. This show didn't need to be about Pike and Spock and the Enterprise. They should've made a show that takes place in the up to date timeline so the ridiculous technological inconsistencies wouldn't matter. They should've had a crew of new characters on a new ship going on adventures and exploring the universe. It's way better than Picard and Discovery so far.

New Star Trek is for more unscientific than is acceptable in science fiction. And TOS was a space western made in a time with less advanced scientific understanding. Captain Pike said "do what you have to do even if it violates the laws of physics". He said that in this show.

Yes, that's all true. But it still doesn't negate the obvious and blatant contradictions and inaccuracies of TOS. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of TOS - I have the entire set on DVD - but I choose to accept the good with the bad. As I do with SNW.

Unfortunately (or not?) scifi is always a balancing act between scientific accuracy and entertainment. This series (SNW) edges more toward the entertainment side. What I like about it is the episodes can exist on their own without the viewer needing to be totally up to date on a continuing storyline arc. I think they were paying attention to the success of The Orville. ;) This makes it more similar to the original series. I realized I liked it after watching all the episodes in just a few days.

I'm shocked by how not terrible Strange New Worlds is. I wonder how that happened when as far as I could tell, it's made by the same people as Discovery and Picard. Must be different show runners or creative directors or whoever is responsible for story directions. None of it is great. The stories are predictable and forgettable. The ghosts were obviously the colonists. The kid was obviously gonna be sacrificed. These aren't thought provoking or original stories and to be fair, a lot of good Star Trek is retreads of old ideas. It's not bad. Relative to Discovery and Picard, it's a masterpiece.

Gorn has a good take on STSNW. STD and STP paved the way to make it palatable.

Although the writers still have plenty of time to screw it up.

Season Two could see a time crystal bearing Stacey Abrams show up as Future Earth President with programmable voting machines and an urgent mission to travel back in time even further to prevent the "2nd Civil War" on earth from happening.

I dislike a lot about the acting choices made by the guy playing Spock but the sideburns are the worst offense.

Discovery and Picard disgusted me so deeply that Strange New Worlds was poisoned by the lowest possible expectations. It's not a bad show. It's not great. But it suffers from its biggest problem and that's that it is called Star Trek. It could've been a new show about spaceships and exploration. No need to have an awful portrayal of Spock. No need to try to retcon plot points technology or story lines. This show with this group of actors playing their characters as is but with different names and not Starfleet Officers? That could've been great. You can do a show about a ship in space exploring the galaxy. It doesn't need baby face garbage Spock or some guy playing Kirk. Why? Why that guy? Why Kirk? A good science fiction show doesn't need it. This could be such a good science fiction show. Awful Spock sideburns. Ortegas, a funny, charming, and seemingly interesting character gets no development while the angry British Soong lady gets lots of backstory and development that ultimately leads to her still being angry and devoid of depth or charm. Urura is fine. Likeable. I liked the Andorian engineer but it's ruined by the idea of an Andorian being on the Enterprise at all given what's established in canon. I'll probably watch the next season.
