Doctor, that makes you #33 on the Status Register. My initial reaction on refinishing it in white was pretty close to sj_bass', but I guess it could work in a really glossy pure white that contrasts with the graphite in one of those ebony-and-ivory kind of ways.

As an aside, I may need to replace a couple of pots (blend and treble pots aren't fully doing what they should), would anyone know if the Series-1 pre lines up with the three holes in the body for the S3000? Of course, a couple of extra holes would need to be drilled, but it looks like the three existing pots line up.

You're best off contacting Rob Green at Status - He keeps in stock all of the original circuit boards and controls, etc. The three control models had a volume, a pickup pan and an active tone sweeper as I recall. You can contact Rob at [email protected]
I recently took my main S2 into the factory and Rob changed my battery boxes & the pickup pan pot on the spot for me. The parts aren't very expensive, but I'd always go genuine Status if you can. The preamps have a very unique and balanced output, too.
Yeah, the pickup pan gives me no neck pickup once it goes even 1% beyond centre towards the bridge. The treble control gives me boost but no cut. I was thinking that, since I will have to spend a little anyway, I might perform a little upgrade too, if possible. I'll get in touch with Rob to see what's possible. Thanks.

Hey everyone, I am also selling my Status Bass, a headless Stealth 6. It is listed in the Talkbass Classifieds.
I came to my senses and decided not to sell. It remains my #1 bass.
With all the new job goings on here, I never got the chance to tell Dr.Dav about the result of my KingBass Mk-II odyssey.
I did go to the factory in the summer and have a couple of small repairs done on my S2 and Rob put the prototype KingBass Mk-II together for me specially. It had the stacked J's which had an amazing punch, but it had the 16.5mm string spacing which I've never got along with. I'm a 19mm kinda guy
Anyway, the main stumbling block was that the prototype was in a matt cherry finish, so it really didn't look good. Yes, it played like a demon and it was a definite piece of history, but it wasn't for me.
I was fully prepared to order a new KB-II, but Rob hadn't made one in such a long time that he decided it wasn't worth resetting all the jigs to make just one bass, so my KB-II dream came to an abrupt end.
I came to my senses and decided I needed something more adaptable for the playing work I'm doing at the moment, so I headed down to visit Martin Sims at Enfield Guitars and bought the Lionheart prototype instead.
So now I'm gradually starting to hover my nose over the new Series 3...

I was about to pull the trigger on a dingwall, but I really don't need a 5 string, so I think a status would be pretty cool!

OTPJ, yes things are looking up. just having to reset the system and evolve with my life. Rob has a B2 headless in stock I'm leaning towards when the time presents itself.
Making due with 2 old friends (Steinbergers) that have abundant history with my hands. Like me, they aren't pretty, but get the job done.

I also wonder about picking that one, or a regular S2-classic with the same finish... jack on the side is nice!

The regular S2 has different pickup spacing and mid EQ controls from the CW model. I like the CW pickup spacing more if you do more finger/pick style playing. I f you slap alot I would stay with the standard S2 or go big for the new S3 model. Remember that Rob will do most any upgrade to your build, ie: string spacing=16.5 or 19mm, scale length= 32" or 34", headed or headless, single coil, humbucker, MM p/u, single p/u, double p/u, you name it and he (within reason) will build it, Oh and then there's the money thing!?!?!?
