My good dudes Borracho (ok I've played with them once but they are good dudes and make awesome music) have an album coming out at the end of the month and the pre-release reviews have been killer! Album will be available through most outlets June 28 but in the meantime check out these reviews and two of the tracks!

I was going to name my band borracho, actually "los borrachos"( Spanish for the drunks) glad I didn't :) we did finally settle in a name, "Electric Machete"

Edit: demos when we have some worthy ones :)

Just spent the last two days at Meatlocker Studios. We recorded 7 songs in about 9 hours, that includes set up and tear down. Everything was recorded live, no click track we'll add some guitar overdubs and fix a few minor errors. 13 mics on the drums, they sound huge! Recorded the bass with my Lakland BG and GT200 plus a clean DI. Going to re-amp the clean track through a Sunn set to fairly clean to add more heft and a Fender champ for some extra snarl. Happy with the results so far.

I love not spending too much time and over thinking the recording process, just capture our live sound and rock and roll...

I'm the complete opposite. Not that either option is right or wrong in general, but for me I'd rather spend the time and get every little detail down perfectly. Why?

I'm going to be listening to this album for a long time. It will be a recorded testament to what I wrote and played, and I want it to be as good as I can possibly make it. If that takes a little bit longer than I'd like then so be it. I should have practiced more. ;)

To me, it's nearly impossible to properly capture "ambience" in a recording, so as far as I'm concerned, if you want to properly feel the essence of a live band, you have to actually see them live. There are some notable exceptions to this but overall it's something I've believed in as long as I've been cognizant of the differences between live and recorded music. Again, I'm not looking down upon anyone who disagrees, this is merely my (mostly crap) opinion.

That said, I'm sure your album is going to kick my ass and I eagerly await it. :D

The EP on our bandcamp (I wasn't the bassist for it) was recorded in a storage locker with no mic isolation, recorded live in full takes with no punch ins and I think the energy behind it is incredible. Really though, different things work for different people. I think the Monobrow albums sound fan-****ing-tastic and I'm glad to hear they take a simplistic raw energy approach to recording! Not that I have anything against any other way :)

Going to see Black Pyramid tonight in Grand Rapids, MI. They just finished tracking some new material, so it should be a pretty fun night. Several localish stoner/doom bands will be there too, so it'll be a chance to check out the MI scene, which I haven't been able to do so far.

The only downside is that I have to drive home (an hour and a half) after the show, and have to schedule my drinking accordingly.

In a completely weird/random series of events I may be making my way back into a stoner band. Some high school buddies and friends from bands I've been in are reforming one of their side projects. If something goes down, hopefully I can share the stage with some of y'all soon!

You're going to play with Justin then? I had talked to him about it but I just don't have the time to juggle two bands right now. If only I was unemployed! ;)

I loved playing with Justin in my last band he's a great dude and I love the Asthma Castle tunes. I keep their EP on my phone and listen to it all the time. I actually ended up playing in a blackened death band with him because I originally was supposed to play bass in AC!

Yeah. I'm not sure how serious it all is. You saw our conversation on Facebook. That's all I know.

Justin is a cool dude. I loved playing with him in The Jackson Whites and Cameron and I go way back. I think it's funny that we went our separate ways and then a few years later we all got into Stoner/Doom. I guess it happens to everyone eventually.
