I'm not BM, but I do believe that's a G&L SB-2.

aiii... two new clips. SHORTER clips.

these were recorded a little differently. i bought one o' them Tascam DR-1 mammajammas, and it's awesome.

so: bass -> SUPERCOLLIDER -> amp

the bass used is an Electra Phoenix (PJ) bass with bartolinis in. the amp is an acoustic B20 (great little amp!). i just pointed the DR-1 at it and hit record. it may sound a little different than my other clips, but it's a heckuvalot simpler to do clips this way... and you get a bit of "room sound" as well (ie, string clanking ).

clip #1 is the SUPERCOLLIDER with the gain maxed. the first run of the riff is with the "mids" switch down, the second run is with the switch up.

clip #2 is the SUPERCOLLIDER with the gain at its lowest... just to show how subtle it can get. i start with a clean tone for reference, then noodle around a little with the "mids" switch down, then with it up (same format as the previous clip).

it does subtle (kinda...), but it shines with gain settings from about 8:00 on.

i wish i had an 18V pre active bass to test it with, but i don't....

wait a sec... there are 2 nine volts in this Electra bass (just got it today... didn't know). all you active nuts: does that necessarily mean it's an 18V preamp, or is it just one battery per bartolini pickup?

I'm not aware of any "active pickups" from Bart (not saying they don't exist, just that I'm not aware of them); and only an "active pickup" would need its own power supply (potentially). If they're regular passive Barts then both of the batteries are for the preamp module.

i found out that it is, in fact, an 18V pre in this thang.

clarification: the clips in post #64 were recorded with the Electra in passive mode. i'll post some clips in active mode, and possibly some Sterling clips in the next couple of days.

i think it resides in one of the many sleazy and weird border towns between Fuzz and Distortion. i'd call it a fuzz... but it's not crazy thick like a muff, for instance. it's a bit clearer.

Sounds like the supercollider gets that same "clean bass underneath" effect as a tonebender.

I'll bet that mids knob is a "flat mids" switch that makes the treble and bass side caps equal.

and the depth knob could control either the input cap - or the bass side tone stack cap.

M. Pickles: i have used them simultaneously... while there are some usable tones there, i prefer to use them separately.

BassJ.: thanks for the clip! that is quite a similar sound. i think earlier i said the SUPERCOLLIDER was akin to a muff in many ways... but it's apparent that it is, in fact, closer to ToneBender in its fuzzy character. i appreciate the clarification!
