The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

No "new" sushis but I rearranged the order, and I can still access the XLR out on the Venus when I need it. I'm using the UA as a slightly gritty-ish channel with the EQ off, a 12AU7, and the gain all the way up. Venus I've settled into the EQ as set here. I keep the same settings for guitar and bass, just swap the LPF filter on / off. Super happy with my sound.

what’s that small box with two knobs in the top right?

General question towards anyone - In a board with a compressor, More, and preamp/DI (Tone Hammer in this case), would you put the More at the very start before compressor, or between compressor and DI?

I don't own a More, so take this with a grain of salt. From my understanding the More adds some tube warmth and the single knob is really a volume control for matching unity gain and/or adding a boost.

I don't think the More provides ANY overdrive at all, but if you play through the More along and can get a different sound between playing lightly as opposed to digging in a bit, then I would suggest you try placing the More before the compressor. But, if it sounds the same playing lightly and digging in, then I would propose that it doesn't matter if it is placed before or after the compressor.

I prefer having the MORE or any of my tube preamps as close to the end as possible, in my case before my signal is split out with stereo effects. If you are using the Tone Hammer as a DI then before would make the most sense, I would try the other two in which combination works best ands is quietest. Having the MORE before your comp could be a way to get more squash from the compressor if that is the sound you like, or vice a versa using the MORE for make up gain.

Just got my Neptunium. Perfect for my needs. IT really takes the sharp edge off pick playing, and sounds great finger style. As many said..HPF with Bass boost, then treble to taste. Will make anything sound better. I flipped out the More for the cleaner Neptunium, not that the More is dirty, maybe hairier. I have the UA, with spaceheater capability, going into and get plenty of whatever else I need from that. Done again.

I generally have mine after the compressor, before most of the effects, then the Preamps and DI at the end. I find this way I can have the compressor output a little lower and push the More a little further, which brings out the tube character plenty. Running it into the compressor sounded nice for a more squishy compressor sound, but I prefer it with it after.

Not to sound flippant , the More is best placed where it sounds best to your ears.

Personally I have had my results results placing it as late in the chain as possible.

Mine sits between my hHX Stomp and my power amp.

Question for Señor Sushi:

I am a huge fan of Detective and Elementary. I’ve even got an old Wattson. I know that they are based on the old Hi-Watt DR 103 circuit, but to my years the EQ is configured a bit differently. So, what’s the official Señor Sushi word as to which EQ settings on Detective and Elementary will produce as flat as signal as possible, understanding that a mid scoop is inherent in the design.

Thanks!

4-5-0 is about as close as it gets, and what's unavoidable is a high mid bump. Here's the simulator to spend your copious free time experimenting with the sliders ;)

Thanks! I’ve used the TSC, but what I don’t know is whether the circuit in the Elementary/ Detective it sufficiently the same that those results are applicable.

It's the simulator Nathan has referred to before, and I believe that's what I hear from my Detective. I usually simply boost the bass on both channels, and after quite a bit of tube rolling and have settled on using a counterintuitive setup with the red channel for clean tone using a 12at7, and the blue channel for OD using a 12ax7.
