The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I'm interested in using either the UA or the Elementary as a tube overdrive pedal, not as always on preamp. I plan on putting it directly after my Effectrode LA-1A that has a boost that could kick the overdrive up from low gain OD into medium gain territory. What is the better choice?
Although Elementary is the "clean" channel of the Detective, you can easily push it into tasty overdrive. Either it or the UA would sound great in that scenario, but the UA gives you the added option of the tone stack bypass which could effectively add 3rd and 4th finger switchable options. IME the main difference between the 2 is that the Detective has a bit more inherent higher frequency content, but they overlap quite a bit.

I'm impatiently waiting for things.

Don't worry, we are too ;)
Oh that order also has the production version of the new Dreamcatcher circuit boards, so I'm excited about that. I also have a prototype for an experiment that uses some neat mojo components a friend gave me, and if that works out and is worth pursuing I'll give more details.

But this is my 5th revision of Grand Slampegg, so that's the one I'm really impatient about.

Would someone be so kind as to connect me to a post in this thread (number is fine) that provides a few details on previous versions of the Grand Slampegg. I have been curious about the Slampegg Pre, and now I want to know what makes such a pedal "grand". I tried the search engine and only found bits and pieces of what I wanted.

Grand Slampegg hasn't been released yet, all the previous board revisions have just been prototypes and I haven't been happy enough with any of them to release. But here's a quick blurb about Slampeggs:

Slampegg Bee Pre (current): based on the Ampeg B-15N preamp with a 12AX7 tube. Simple 1/4" input and 1/4" output with a footswitch to bypass. I left the circuit as close to the original as possible, and with a 12AX7 or 12AT7 installed it can get a decent amount of overdrive.

Grand Slampegg: Also based on the Ampeg B-15N preamp but this time with a 6SL7 tube. I have modified the circuit on this one to stay clean no matter what, but it allows you get the B-15N clean tone LOUD which seems to be what most B-15 players want. I have added a D.I. XLR output so this can be your rig-in-a-box, kept the two-band EQ and also added a fixed frequency HPF like you see in Neptunium and Finally v2.

Grand Slampegg has the 1/4" dry pass switch so you can run the preamp out the XLR and send your dry signal through the 1/4" to an amplifier, like Finally. But in this revision I've also managed to squeeze in an XLR source switch like I have in Venus Z. So you can choose whether you want preamp output from the XLR or if you just want it to act as a passive D.I. box. This would allow you to send the preamp signal through the 1/4" output to a power amp and a clean D.I. signal to FOH for example.

Here's hoping 5th time is the charm on this one, I really want this one to be worth releasing.

I do about 80% upright and 20% electric work (P bass with heavy flats), and I'm really looking forward to the grand slampegg; so that I get a closer tone to my B15 with a single dose of the right tube (5691), and no amp to lug around for live work.

but I don't recall, is it channel one or two? (volume before or after tone?)
my b15 has one volume pot per channel, unlike the 12a tubed slampegg which has a gain and a master.. the grand slampegg will more resemble the nobelium, with volume/bass/treble, right?
also its the preamp section alone across the one tube, no phase tube, and no cabism to replicate sag and voltage drop across power tubes?

everything seems great so far(!), and I know you're not taking requests on design decisions, and I don't hear many others out there saying anything much about it.... with a different frequency and 2nd order passive hpf this could be useful for upright players and those whom find that a 90hz@6db/Oct isn't the right setting for their needs.
in my case with DB it would be great to not need another piece of hardware, so that I can actually use this as a rig-in-a-box, instead of part of a small board. the center freq of my bass is around 112hz, so 90 is too close and kills the fundamental without doing much about the mud which a steeper HP starting around 70hz really helps.
my thought is thus; perhaps you could write a simple whitepaper for those daring or experienced enough to modify the hpf themself, in a way which may meet with your approval. not a guide, but suggestions (pic with an arrow, which value for which freq, etc).
OR
will you be releasing these on C2C? will there be daughter boards for potentially adding a phase tube?

my comments are in the spirit of being constructive, always.
I'm a big Nathan/sushibox fan, and I don't have any other pedals/preamps, and I really like where I'm at, and would love to just have one preamp/pedal/DI.

Ahhhh yes. The Grand Slampegg. I have heard of that, echoes in dreams. I have visions of a future where mankind comes together to hold hands and acknowledge in a monolithic chant that I have one.

So the grand slampegg won’t really have the ability to break up? I was holding out for that but I’m thinking it might be better to grab a slampegg to act as a pre for my neptunium when I need a dirtier tone. Anyone here running a slampegg bee pre into a neptunium?

Currently running an MXR 10 as a pre into a cali76 into a neptunium and loving the clean tones but will need a hair of dirt for upcoming rock gigs and not loving the drive in my HX stomp, mind you, for live applications it might be ok…

Correct, it will not be able to break up by itself. Granted running another pedal into it and pushing the front end will still allow the 6SL7 to break up, but by itself it will just be clean.

I have the day off today so I'm getting the Neptuniums boxed up and ready to go out shortly. Thank you to everyone who purchased one, I'm always excited to hear people excited about what I make, and the more I sell the more I get to do other cool things. In fact the first sample batch of one of the things Neptunium was intended to fund arrived yesterday, I'll grab pics in a minute.

Warning: dangerously nerdy stuff that some might find uninteresting

Mmkay, so it's not really a secret that I've been working on a revised SVT preamp for a while now. I've also decided the Furthermore preamp will have an SVT-ish mids control in its tonestack. One of the special ingredients that makes the SVT mids control work is a custom wound multi-tap inductor that is notoriously difficult to come by. There is one place I'm aware of that sells a drop-in replacement, but it is prohibitively expensive.

Fortunately if you have enough information about something and enough money, you can walk into a factory (literally or virtually) and have them make a thing for you. I was able to talk to the factory that already makes my Unagi E4305 D.I. transformers and convince them to do these for me as well. I tested one in my Furthermore preamp prototype and it sounded excellent, so I went ahead and installed one in my SVT Classic head as well. This thing is a winner.

On the left you can see the original Ampeg inductor, on the right is my Unagi version prototype. I only have a handful right now for testing purposes, but I have 500 more on the way.

Go ahead and just take my money. I already want one.

Holy smokes. Can we start the wait list for the furthermore?
Nah, Furthermore is still vaporware until I get the final version ready, I refuse to open a list or take money when something isn't verified and ready to go. But Furthermore will very much not be limited, I plan to make them pretty much forever, so you don't need to worry about whether or not they'll be available.
