Can you stack the channels? Can the blue and red channel be on at the same time?

No, the red channel and blue channel share a tube so you can't run both at the same time. Also the red channel has so much freaking gain that putting the blue channel in front of that would likely be unstable and just a chaotic noisy mess.

I have way too many Sushi Box pedals (not really, but I have a lot), but I am going to be giving a JC Emerald a whirl, mainly for guitar, but will try it on bass as well. Should be here today, right before a weeklong vacation from work. I will report back on the bass side of things once I have some time with it.

Please post your thoughts. I’ve always wanted to try the JCE, but never pulled the trigger.

Has anyone here compared the Slampegg to the Broughton SV-PRE?

To this and the later posts about the Fliptop, as someone who has all 3 they are Apples, Oranges, and Pears.
All great pedals, all quite different, regardless of what they were modeled after.

And as a person who like both the Fender and Ampeg tone stacks, I'm looking forward to the SBVT.

However, nothing surpasses my Eden WT-400.

I’m having trouble matching the XLR and 1/4” volume on the Venus Z. Any tips?

Even with the XLR’s trim maxed, the 1/4 output is so much hotter. I can only turn the Volume knob a hair (like barely 7 o clock) before it starts clipping.

@CoachEvan yeah I think that should do it. I was just messing around with my Finally V2 earlier this week to reduce the signal to the 1/4” and CCW reduced the signal. All the way down is basically “off” so make sure to bump it back up a quarter to half turn.

Graphic representation of the above. Left was the latest version before the redesign, this unit was built around May 2024; right was designed this past summer and built last week. And not for nothing, but the design on the right took a lot more work and as an engineer I'm incredibly proud of it.

Yes.
Also, I would avoid maxing out any of the volume controls/trim pots. Odd things happen and they become interactive. Nathan has posted about this before.

And congrats on picking up a Venus Z. It is a very different flavour of greatness from his other preamps. It doesn’t get the love it deserves.

I'm thinking about getting either a Mesa Prodigy or B-15R to use as an optional tube power amp for my various tube pre amps.... anyone have any advice would be welcome (this is obviously Sushi Box related as I only use Sushi Box preamp pedals exclusively)

Yup, I'm sure you've figured it out by now. Sorry I've been absent for a bit, busy day.

They're pretty different.

Slampegg Bee Pre:
- 12AX7 tube
- capable of grit/overdrive with gain turned up
- 1/4" out only

Grand Slampegg:
- 6SL7 tube
- 100% clean, doesn't have a gain control
- XLR output and 1/4" output
- fixed frequency switchable HPF (yup, I throw it in pedals willy-nilly now)

I have a final prototype sitting on my desk, I'll grab a pic when I get the sushi kids to bed.

Mmkay, as promised. This isn't the 100% final version, but this is more or less what the thing will look like. And for those that care about that sort of thing, I've already moved the tube slots up so you aren't seeing the plastic bass of the tube and you're seeing more glass.

Yeah dimensions are about the same height as Finally but obviously a little wider to accommodate the giant 6SL7 tube. The one thing that was slowing this down was trying to figure out a good way to make the tube user-swappable, as the way I had it basically meant the entire guts needed to come out to get the tube out. Fortunately I married a woman smarter than myself, and she came up with an elegant solution that I liked, so I'll be sure to grab some shots of that when I have the first production unit built up.

Stupid question time Snr @Sushi Box FX . Looking at this pic, this does mean one would be able to have the choice of output combinations:
A. 1/4 dry, xlr dry
B. 1/4 wet, xlr wet
C. 1/4 dry xlr wet
D. 1/4 wet, xlr dry
