This is the case for much of what we obsess over. Very very much
for me it’s not about what gets lost in the mix, it’s about how it FEELS when I play.
I've always thought it came down to the Transformer. The Noble has the Jensen which I think makes that difference. IMO anyway. My Nobelium has a Jensen and it's what made me sell the Noble. I tried to talk Nathan into hotroding my Neptunium with a Jensen too
Having been a C2CE fan, I’ve made enough from selling my builds to enter the SB club. Ordered my first two SB pedals yesterday.
Looking forward to time with a Finally v3 and a Tarantula Fuzz
Man the Tarantula has become my favorite fuzz. I've been trying out tons of fuzz pedals and I keep landing on it.
Finally v3, grand slampegg, Venus z, jc emerald are all more interesting to me then anything noble related. My glass butterfly, UA, and Sunnday drive are also staples of my collection.
I may still end up selling my tube bass, but I just ended up getting another bass.

I had been looking for a nice semi-hollow with a piezo for a while, and since Ibanez basses feel the best in my little hands I was looking at the SRH500. Unfortunately they discontinued the fretted version a few years ago and only make the fretless now, and I'm not a fretless dude. So when this popped up for sale I had to jump on it. Plays amazingly and sounds fabulous.
One of these days I'll finally talk myself into an electric upright, but until then this is a great "acoustic-sounding" bass.

I think you got it down to a T, "honey I think I might sell this bass" while you silently slip a new one in behind your back.
It's funny how all us guys think we get away with this even though she most likely knew what we were up to before we did.
I did actually have a conversation with her about getting rid of the one and potentially getting a new one. The tube bass is literally my only non-Ibanez bass, so it gets the least playing time because of my personal preferences, and aside from the tube preamp it's in the same tonal category as my other PJ pickup bass, so it's the most extraneous thing I have. The SRH plays just as well as my other basses, but the difference in tonal characteristics makes it a very useful thing to have around, as I often get questions from players on how certain pedals will react to a piezo pickup.
I tried to explain all of this to my wife, and was met with the familiar "I don't think I'll ever understand all that stuff". I tried to explain how it's like her having different handbags to use with different outfits and different occasions, but this was hindered by the fact that this bass is still roughly the same shape* and color as the other bass, and the explanation of pickups is a little beyond the grasp of a non-player.
*we all know an SR is a different shape than a jazz, but to someone who isn't a musician, anything with the vaguely "two-arm" shape is the same shape. Also "dragon-eye burst" on a spruce top is a different finish than "columbian gold" on a black korina top, but a brown bass is a brown bass.

Yup, it's a hot take from someone with multiple "different kinds of black" shoes. But to my wife all of my basses are "brown".Perspective.
Just be lucky she distinguishes the basses from the guitars at all!
Mrs. Phil looks at the instrument rack, with three basses, and ok yes one Stratocaster; just calls them all "guitars".
We did get married (well, agreed to a first date) because bass is her favourite instrument, but as I have learned over the years, she is also an unapologetic troll!
One time I tried explaining the difference between a P and J Bass, went something like this...
You might have to get some black basses as well so she can tell the difference between them.

Maybe just a Hofner violin bass in black and say its for the girls when they get a bit older ?
( It works the first couple of times when you say its for the kids)
EDIT: Just never say its for her to try cause you might find she trades it in for a pair of shoes.
