Would it be possible to add an effects Loop to the nobelium? How difficult would that be does anyone know?

Like in between the preamp and the D.I. output? It's possible, but you'll be hard-pressed finding room for an extra pair of jacks in the box.

Nevermind. The used Nobelium i bought from Guitar Center arrived today and it is broken.
No sound from the DI, and if I flip the ground switch I get a loud buzz.
Returning it tomorrow.

I have a couple questions:

a) What benefit would I have running a UA in front of the Finally v3 using the EQ (besides having EQ option) on the UA. Using stock tubes in both.

b) If I change the tube in the F v3 to higher gain and NOT use the UA with it, how would this compare to option a above besides not having the EQ ?

I have been doing this with a F v2 and a UA. RCA 5751 in the F and a RCA 12ax7 in the UA and was using the UA for EQ purposes. It sounds really nice. I have very recently purchased an original Slampegg Bee to do the same thing I did with the UA but with that tone stack. Loving it!

Also just bought the JC Emerald in the classifieds and am going to try it as well in the same role with the F v2. I also play guitar a little, so it will have dual use. I'd like to buy and try all the Sushi pre pedals and see what I like best stacked with the F v2. London Underground maybe next unless I splurge on an SVBT or new GS with the DI built in.

The JC Emerald is an outstanding pedal for both guitar and bass. I don't think you will be disappointed!

+1 on the JC Emerald works equally well on guitar or bass offering a very different but beautiful platform for bass. I run the deep on for bass and switches off for clean and crunch guitar tones and bright for higher gain with various dirt boxes YMMV. UA also works equally well on guitar, the one I use for guitar has a JJ 12ax7MG for a bit more in the mids and it has a slightly smoother saturation profile.

Nobelium is a tricky one because the DIY project has been around for a while which means a good chunk of the Nobelium builds you find out there weren't built by me (which is why I don't want people using the Sushi Box name in their listings), but I will always take care of anything that was built by me and will occasionally also take care of things built by others, but I do charge for that.

If you have something that you're not sure was built by me or by someone else just shoot me a message or email with inside and outside pictures, it's easy for me to tell.

Might not be the case with the issue you're describing, but a simple check to make sure the tube is properly seated (i.e., that it didn't pop out some in transit) might make all the difference. I've had that happen with tube pedals before.

Doug just PM'd me a picture of the circuit board, and I don't think pushing the tube all the way in is going to fix it. It is not a unit that I built, it was a DIY builder, and my goodness the extent to which they did not follow the build instructions is mindblowing to me.

Compressor newb here. Single Slice arrived and I added it to the front of my setup and turned knobs for a couple hours while I ran through a bunch of tunes this morning. I can relate to the description "it's subtle, but when you turn it off, you notice and want it back".

Question for folks who use compression, and especially, the SS…how do you like to dial in your settings? I read @scubaduba 's review and it was helpful for getting oriented. Now I'm looking for guidance on a stepwise process, what to listen for, as I choose settings for rehearsals and gigs.

Question on the Grand Slampegg… if I understand correctly, the pre can be selected on/off. When selected dry, is it a straight pass through or is the 6SN7 involved?

Dry is a straight passthrough, the tube (6SL7 is stock) is not in the signal path.

Everyone has to start somewhere so I don't want to be too hard on the builder, but Nobelium is not a beginner project and I don't know how anyone in good conscience could sell something that looks like that.

Gooping a clone kit is strange, not like you can't figure out the components and schematic anyways.

Not for nothin, my main head is a Magellan 800, and I enjoy the Elementary, Underground Axe and Dreamcatcher run into it (depending on the bass). I always like an active mid control in series with the passive eq on my Sushi preamps. YMMV.

Can anyone please share the main tonal differences between the Elementary and the UA? I understand they're modeled after different amps, but what real world discernible differences are there? Mr. Sushi please chime in as well. I'm searching for clean and fat with no overdrive/distortion.

I've made 15-20 of these. Those extra wires and board are NOT stock. My guess is someone attempted to mod in some way? Return for sure.

For the sake of general knowledge and buyer beware stuff, are we going to find out the builder? PM me if you want to keep it quiet, and I will, but I'd sure like to know and steer clear…
