The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I've had a handful of people report weirdness happening when the Finally v3 HPF is used immediately after a modeler, it's something I'm actively investigating.
There are occasionally interactions that are going to happen when mixing up effects from different makers and types, there is no way to cover all of those possible instances that approach infinity, certainly when it comes to a boutique operation that can happen. Isolated power supplies may address some of those instances or changing the order or inserting another effect between can sometimes buffer that interaction.
Some of my @Sushi Box FX effects play well with others and some don't, that's simply the game - I can accept that. .

I am BRAND NEW in here..... I've been trying to search & search, so be kind if I ask the question that makes you wanna tell me to use the search. I just took a chance on a trade with a Slampegg Bee Pre X, and I'm trying to learn all I can on it. Really enjoying it so far!

1. Is there a manual?
2. I've seen some of the name change info, but what does "Pre X" refer to? - answered, thanks!
3. What's that internal trimpot do?
Welcome @henryjurstin13 to the wonders of the Secret Society that seems to be less a secret these days. @Sushi Box FX has gone through several generations of development and design evolution changes over the years since the original mini tube versions to 12AX7, side to top jacks, custom orders and colors to recent offerings that are more standardized.
As @jbybj and @bass player 53 have answered, the "Slampegg Bee PreX" denotes a 12AX7 being utilized.

The Slampegg Bee is inspired and loosley based on the circuit design of the venerable Ampeg B15 amps that were popular in the 60's and 70's and used by many players live and in the studio. These amp tones are highly desirable for any style of music.

The Gain control allows the user to adjust the input signal to better match instrument output and achieve desired saturation
Treble and Bass controls are interactive James/Baxandall passive tone control types that are popular in many electronic devices from HiFi and stereo systems and amplifiers due to their simplicity and musical results.
Master sets the output level, the Slampegg Bee has a bit lower output than other preamps but I have found it plenty good for my needs.
Lo and Hi increase those levels and seem to change the response of the tone circuit. I have Ultra Lo, Ultra Hi and Bright on my minitube version and use them to quickly change tone once the bass and treble are set.

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately playing guitar instead of bass, as I am new (about a year and a few months) to it, and the learning curve is really steep for me still. I decided to order one of the remaining Tarantula Fuzz pedals on the super cheap blowout sale Nathan has going on them to use on guitar. Anybody have any experience with this pedal on guitar? It seems to sound great on bass, and I love that it has a gate built in. The deal he has going was too hard to pass up. Anyway, thanks.

You are totally right. But in this instance, the Single Slice by Sushi Box is unusable when there’s a Finally v3 by Sushi Box downstream with the HPF engaged, too

The weirdest thing to me there is that there are still people that are able to use both with no problem. Both Phil Mann and Mike Watt gigged Single Slice and Finally v3 together before I made The Watt and neither had issues with the HPF engaged. That's one I'm still looking at because I can't think of any reason for it to be happening between two analog devices, both made by me.

I think I have seen where others have at least thought about it, but I don’t see any actual reports when I search. For upright players, especially, I wanted to report that the More is a perfect pedal to put in the effects loop/insert of a Grace Alix or Felix! I hadn’t used any of my Sushi Box gear with my acoustic rig, and always went back and forth between the Noble for the warm goodness and a Grace (Alix if no mic; Felix if blending) for the surgical control. Adding the More makes the Grace the perfect rig for me with gooeyness and control, no distortion, great clarity, etc. I love it and am glad I finally thought to try it!

The very first prototype I did for Finally v3 before talking to Phil was basically a Finally v2 with a baxandall EQ, and it was a great addition. But both he and Mike Watt (I ask his opinion from time to time) agreed that a variable HPF would be more useful than an EQ on the pedal, and I didn't have room for both. But that was a couple years ago, and I'm smarter now than I was then, so I'm pretty sure I could figure something out.
Probably a dumb question, but how would this differ from the Redacted B?

I am in this exact process of trying to pair some kind of tube something with my Barber Linden pedal to get that sound. I am currently trying to see if tube swapping in the EBS Valve Drive will get me there, but I haven't quite gotten there. Thinking about grabbing a Finally or a Redacted B.

The tube choice impacts it a lot, the difference in feel between 12AU7 and 6SL7 is bigger than I expected it to be. But there is also the point of circuit topology; [redacted b] is two gainstages in parallel to effectively function as a single gainstage with an EQ at the end, whereas the setup I described earlier was two separate stages with an EQ in between them.

They're in the same ballpark functionally, but I wouldn't say they're very close tonally.

I might need to snag that one again. I miss it, and I really thought you could get some dope Commerford like drive tones using it.

Thank you for the clarification! Dang... Here I had a plan to grab the Finally but it sounds like I should consider the [redacted b] as well, if I'm looking for a little extra oomph. (I do love the old school amps.)

I have a Barber Linden and a Finally v3 and it sounds great. Happy to record some samples if that would be of any use (P basses with round and flats)?

Dang. That would be amazing, if it's not too much trouble! P bass with rounds and/or flats is exactly my speed.
Cool - let me exactly what sort of thing you would like to hear and I'll knock something up (I'm recording at the moment, so it's not much bother). I can add a 1176-style compressor into the line too if that's what you'll be using. Anything else you use in your chain? What Linden settings do you normally use?

Amazing. Yeah! I expect my chain on my board will include my Cali 76, a tube pedal of some sort, and the Linden.

If you're able to provide a sample of what the chain sounds like with the Finally bypassed and engaged, that would be really fantastic. Thanks a million.

Oh! For my settings I tend to keep it with the standard flat signal with some bass mild boost to give it some bloom.

Cool - I've got an enpress compressor and a JPTRFX Jive, so that should match your setup to a degree. Here's the file link. Ignore the playing, I was trying to get it out the door quickly. The file names should be explanatory. A/B software should help if you have it. sushi finally files

This is amazing. Thank you so much! You really covered the whole sonic spectrum and nailed some classic bass lines in the process. It sounds absolutely great.

My Sushi board (as opposed to the sushi boat or charcuterie board) has an Empress comp driving an Underground Accellerator and a Finally V2. I got no problems with that setup. Mostly that one is in my IEM's with my folk rock band. If there were issues, they would be obvious...
