The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Hi there!


I recently have become a Sushiaddict. I put together a Particle Accelerator and it is an incredible piece of gear, so now I'm going deep and getting a Bassdude and a Nobelium.

I'm thinking about ordering some enclosures from Tayda and I was wondering if there are art files for sushibox pedals available anywhere? I did find the drilling templates, but couldn't find any graphic templates.

Also, anyone has compared tungsten to nobelium and if so, what are your thoughts? I'm slowly reading this whole thread but so far I haven't found any comparison between them.

You're in the wrong place my friend. None of the pedals you listed are Sushi Box products, you need to be in the Conspiracy to Commit Electronics Megathread.

Oh, sorry about this... I got the Particle Accelerator from musikding and it was listed under the Sushibox Fx category and the PCB has a Sushibox logo printed on it, hence my posting here.

I'll post in the correct thread, thanks.

Musikding isn't supposed to have a Sushi Box category, I guess I need to talk to Klaus about that again, he told me he had changed it. Sushi Box does not offer DIY projects and they are all under the Conspiracy to Commit Electronics name. When I first started offering DIY projects they were under the Sushi Box name, but it all moved over to Conspiracy to Commit Electronics in 2023.

Just received my first Sushibox… an Underground Accelerator with a 12AU7 for more clean headroom. My P bass with Lollar pickup has never sounded better. I’m still getting used to how interactive the EQ seems to be. Boosting treble seems to cut volume. Bypassing the EQ boosts volume. As long as I can make-up enough gain at the board, this may become my choice for my ampless gigs.

I just bumped my Broughton SV-Pre from this tiny board to try out the Sushibox tomorrow. Any issue with using a One-Spot into the tuner, and then a powered patch cable from the tuner power output? It should be more than enough current to power the Underground Accelerator, unless I’m missing something…

There's a trim pot inside if you need extra volume, can be helpful if you're running it with the EQ on and with a 12AU7. (This was the older versions anyway, I think the new redesign has a toggle or something inside of a trim pot?)

Hello!

I'm hoping to get the opinions of the bass collective hive mind on Sushi Box products.

I'm a bassist in a cover band, and am looking (I think) for a fairly niche use case. I'm sure like many of you, I got tired of lugging a huge bass amp everywhere I go and these days have settled on a hybrid setup that includes HX stomp, Fender Rumble to provide some stage volume and feel, and a DI for FOH. I've been gigging IEMS about 85% of the time, and while I love them, I miss hearing/and feeling my amp on stage when I use them, hence the hybrid setup.

To me, all the digital modelers sound great from FoH but lack the feel of a tube amp. I tried ReVolt bass thinking it was the choice for me (which includes a real tube), and while I loved the feel of it, the tone stack just won't work for me (channel 1 is fine but channel 2 is far too thin), so I'm back to a SansAmp VT deluxe, which nails the tones I want but lacks the same feel.

I've been eyeballing the Sushi Box "More" pedal and am wondering if I slap one in the VT's effects loop, if it might give me the punch/bloom/compression/warmth or however you choose to describe the goodness of tubes I'm missing so much?

Is this the pedal for me? Is there a better option? Not looking to color the tone more than the VT does, but just enhance the feel a bit. It seems like this might be the use case, but on the other hand I'm sitting on about $1k in failed DI experiments at the moment 😂

I'd love your suggestions and thanks in advance!

Sorry I didn't answer your email, I just got home from work. I'll agree with the others, I think Finally would do well for you. More does well at giving a subtle extra something, but if you're looking for punch/bloom/compression/warmth, that sounds like either Finally or, well, Single Slice Compressor. Ordering isn't available at the moment because I'll be out of town for a bit, but we can talk when I get back. Unless of course you're in the Baltimore area, in which case you should swing by the Baltimore Pedal Show and we can talk in person.

This is helpful, and interesting.

So this is to say that if my plan were to put a pedal in my VT Bass' FX loop, the Underground Accelerator might be the best option for imparting that "feel" without coloring the tone too much (I'd let VT Bass do that).

I think this makes sense? From what I've read "More" imparts some harmonic richness, but VT Bass also supposedly does this. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong tube qualities to enhance my feel.

First, that is what I have been saying. Glad to see it is not only me.

Onto the Sushi, I have had the MORE and Finally and I think the Finally will work better for what you are seeking. Use it at the end of the chain after the VT, not in the loop. With those Sansamps, the built in amp/cab sim can still go out of the 1/4 output so you can just run that into Finally and then to board. Then you also not only get the benefit of the tube, but also some sweet transformer essence. I often run a BDDI or VTDI into a Finally and then to the board. It is great. I always love trying stuff out, but I always end up back at that set up.

I believe I saw your responses when running into this myself, but it's been a hot minute. I wanted to love it, and maybe it sounds really good with an active bass. I even put an EQ curve to it just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. It sounds reasonably good alone but on stage... just not enough oomph for my taste. I've hung onto it anyway hoping I can use it just because Ross was so gracious with his time and feedback.

Thanks for your feedback on this; I'm encouraged to learn you pair the VT and Finally with good outcomes. I'm inclined to go this route also based on these responses. You don't find that the Finally bakes in a tone or colors the signal poorly in the VT context? I'm just covering my bases because I only have so much $$ haha. I think it's supposed to be a Noble clone, right? So it's likely pretty clean.

Last question - there are a few Finally versions (3?). Which should I be gunning for?
