Nope, it will run fine for about 30 minutes or so, then the regulator will overheat and shut down. It won't damage anything and will work fine once it's cooled down, but 12V doesn't work for operating.

Oh man, this thing sounds so freaking good you guys are going to go nuts. It has two controls, Boost and Volt. Boost does exactly what you would expect, Volt changes the tube's plate voltage. It sweeps from 30V (stock Edison voltage) up to 180V, so you can dial it in by ear to whatever sounds best to you. If your ears like what mine do, you'll probably spend a lot more time on the 180V side. It sounds good at 30V, it sounds like an Edison, but at 180V it is nothing less than heavenly. I'll try to get some recordings of it soon. Seriously, so so good.

Unnamed preamp (working title "A Little Dirt") also sounds excellent, I really like how this one came out. With the gain down around 9:00 you can crank the volume and get a sweet, warm clean sound with little to no breakup, or if you crank the gain you can get a bit of dirt like PA or LU. And like PA and LU it has a nice hot output, so it will absolutely drive a power amp.
I'm actually going to postpone getting Dr Wattson X together until later, I want to get a couple boxes milled out so I can box these two up.

So they're pretty different, the Westinghouse is obviously my take on the Edison but with a variable plate voltage (seriously, so much better at high voltage). The simple pre (I should probably start asking for name suggestions for that one) is a 12AX7 preamp along the vein of the PA, but I tamed the gain a little bit and pulled out the tone stack. Westinghouse is going to be cleaner, even at high voltage it doesn't really break up, but the simple pre will definitely get some growl if you turn up the gain.The Westinghouse uses an EF86 tube and will take a 9V supply, I'll measure current some time, but it should be a bit less than my typical 6N21B preamps. The simple pre takes a 12V input (I'm still working on the 9V-12V thing for 12AX7) and has the same power requirements as any X series pedal, about 400mA or so.

Just gain and volume. It's a pretty simple pre
Designed not necessarily for tone shaping, but to add some warmth and maybe a little grit to the rest of your signal chain. And before anyone gets the wrong idea, these will not be sold with vintage British GE tubes.
I have a PF-800 incoming, so I like the idea of a simple tube preamp pedal that could drive its power amp directly. I hope the Slampegg can, but if not I might be in the market for something up to the task.

Ok folks - now we all need to let the Senor get on with building these lovelies ! No doubt inquiring minds want to know everything right now but a little restraint with the questions will yield big dividends sooner ! I AM REALLY looking forward to the Westinghouse sound samples - I do have to admit the questions have been good - particularly about the one about the purchase slot - Kelly

Yup, there really isn't anything that needs to change on the circuit level for either of these so I plan to make both available starting in March.

Now that I’ve had a few days to work with it you can color me very (as in *very*) impressed. I’ve got two other B-15 style preamps: Barber Linden and a Broughton Alex-1 Bax. All three deliver that chocolatey vintage Ampeg goodness. But the Slampeg Bee brings its own special magic with it. As do the other two.
Guess I’ll have to keep all of them.

The talk of Plate Voltages is kinda lost on my brain. I think that means feeding more voltage to the tube (?), but what does that translate to in terms of sound?
The A Little Gain sounds quite interesting, too. Both sound great, but a tube sweetner with a little gain available might be what I'm looking for.

So the plate is the high-voltage part of the tube, and more voltage, to put it in a non-technical way, lets the tube "breathe" more. I'm terrible at describing sounds with words, but I want to use words like "rich" and "full" to describe the sound with the higher voltage.Very glad I switched my order back to March!
