So the more I think about it the more I'm starting to like Space Heater. The preamp shares some DNA with PA, so it would keep with the science-y theme and make graphics easy to come up with.
On a mostly unrelated note, I just found a guy locally that has a big box full of vintage tubes he's trying to get rid of. They're untested, but they're audio tubes, so it should be worth the time it takes spinning dials and pulling levers on my 70-ish year old tube tester.
The Linden is just EQ. It doesn't do anything else so it's not really a preamp like the Slampegg (or Fliptop or P-15) is.

How is the Linden any different? It has a gain and EQ stage just like a B-15N and Slampegg. The Linden doesn’t have a separate master volume knob. But a B-15N doesn’t either. And the Linden drives the effects-in loop just fine on my amp, thereby sidestepping the built-in preamp. So for my purposes it serves just fine as a preamp.
It may not have sufficient push to drive something like a Crown power amp by itself. (Neither does the Slampegg Bee btw.
) But there are enough inexpensive line level booster circuits out there that can give you that if you need extra level. So that it’s an easy shortcoming to get around for any preamp/EQ pedal out there.Does the Fliptop have line level out? If not, I don’t see where there’s any real difference between that, the Slampegg, and the Linden. And yes, the Fliptop has cab emulation. But that’s a separate thing and not something considered part of a preamp in the formal sense.
I guess it’s all how you want to define the term “preamp” as it’s commonly used.

In Dr. Wattson (and every other preamp I make with the trimpot) it will go from 30V to about 400V. In future redesigns I think I'll start putting in limiting resistors so you can't accidentally blow up the caps by giving it too much voltage. But if you know how to work a voltmeter most of my pedals have a high voltage test point so you can monitor the voltage as you're adjusting.
And since I have to say this every time I mention adjusting it, PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH THE TRIMPOT INSIDE YOUR PEDAL UNLESS YOU KNOW 100% WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
If you know your way around this sort of stuff I will happily give you instructions or even a schematic, but please don't get zapped by one of my pedals.

The Linden is just doing the EQ stack. The Fliptop, P-15, and Slampegg are emulating the whole preamp section of a B-15 down to the tube. The Fliptop does it via solid state and the Slampegg (reg and X) do it with tubes. I think of the gain knobs as tube saturation and master more like the regular volume knob since some functions are on the circuitboard. The P-15 is simpler and exactly like a real B-15 - bass/treble/volume. I'm taking the Fliptop's cab sim out of the equation as that's a whole different tone shaping thing. In my playing with the Fliptop I haven't loved the cab sim vs. say, what a C.A.B. M+ brings to the table.
The Linden also isn't marketed or sold as a preamp. If you're using it that way, cool, but it's not really.
I guess I’ve been reading wrong, should we just buy a slot and mention which pedal we want?
