Put me in the camp of streamlining is better. Find a finish that looks good and isn't super labor intensive and make them by the dozen.

Anyone currently own a PA and LU and played them side by side? Interested to hear your thoughts on the differences.

i had both very briefly before i gifted the PA to my guitar player/keys player friend (btw fender rhodes -> PA -> fender twin sound pretty heavenly)

but i did play them both with the bass (at low volumes) before the PA left my possession. they definitely sound similar but i was able to get some hair/crunch if you will out of the LU when i got the gain knob above 1 or 2 o’clock. For me the PA stayed basically clean even with the gain maxed.

It was early in the morning and I was trying to be considerate of the neighbors so maybe with the volume knob opened a bit more you might get some more overdriven sounds from the PA.

edit: they both add a certain heft to the low end that is hard to describe. despite the PA staying clean you can definitely tell when it’s off.

Any thoughts on how the mid and treble controls compare considering they are the same style of tone stack? More or less top end with the highs, or whether the LU can scoop mids differently to the PA for example?

i didn’t get that in depth with the comparison tbh. the mid control on the LU does seem to behave consistently with what i’ve experienced on other fender tone stacks (ie mids dimed sounds “flat” to my ears)

I’ve been following this thread from early on, and I’m super excited for the slampegg coming in Feb. I just wanted to say a few things regarding some of the topics that have come up, then I’ll go back to quietly observing.
Nathan’s customer support has been amazing! Since I ordered back in Nov I made several changes and he’s been totally cool with it.
Regarding the aesthetics. I thought the custom color was just the cherry on top of getting a sub $200 tube pedal. If there was a standard color/design/raw enclosure with custom knob option, that would still be something unique that most other pedal builders don’t offer.

The idea of an on/off toggle switch with foot switch boost came up a while back and that sounds amazing. I typically leave preamp type pedals always on. If the foot switch could then be used to add more gain w/o volume, or have its own pre/post switch...I don’t even want to think of the possibilities.

Sorry I've been absent since yesterday, I hit a snag with Gondwana that took my whole night and haven't been on much this morning.

This actually brings up a point I've been thinking about. I know customization is cool, but if I can get enclosures done fast I could literally crank out 40 in a weekend, which means I could potentially finish a bunch and keep them on hand to speed future production. Maybe one of these days I'll even get ahead of the list and be able to make things with a short lead time and make them more available.

I know customization is cool, but if I can get enclosures done fast I could literally crank out 40 in a weekend, which means I could potentially finish a bunch and keep them on hand to speed future production. Maybe one of these days I'll even get ahead of the list and be able to make things with a short lead time and make them more available.

I just changed my March build Slampegg X powdercoat color to your new painted color scheme.

Lab Rat - top jacks, violet sparkle finish, clipping diode switch mod

And there's one more I'm on the fence about, but it might show up.

So if you had it on the books for April then you may have missed where I'm increasing my build volume and consolidating months, so what used to be April is now happening in February. I currently don't have anything on the books for April as I want more time to get the website updated for changes before opening ordering for April.

I am still honoring all custom orders, I will not change any order that has been placed unless you tell me to. The new artwork will only affect new orders that will be placed after the announcement (i.e. April onward).

I might just have the weirdest application for a Westinghouse. My lab tests mosquito repellents using battery powered hand warmers. I’m thinking the voltage control might be handy for optimizing the temperature for maximum attraction. Does higher voltage = warmer?

That's a good (and admittedly odd) question. So most of the power consumed by the tube (or any tube for that matter) is going to be in the heaters, which are a separate low voltage (6V) supply. In the case of EF86 the heaters dissipate about 1.5W. The plate at 30V is dissipating 0.09W, and at 200V is still only dissipating 0.6W, so not a lot of heat there.
