I was kind of having this conversation with someone else, graphics are tricky because everything is subjective. My day job is electrical engineering, and numbers are objective, they're either wrong or they're right. When the numbers are wrong, you fix them. That's the attitude I try to take with everything, I really want EVERYONE to be happy with everything, and I know it's nearly impossible to make that work sometimes, but I still try.

I know my view is biased as the creator, because I know how much learning/time/investment goes into the finishing options, and while the full-color printing the way I'm doing it is the least amount of time for me now, it's the result of years of trying different things and buying and learning new equipment, and I'm really proud of the progress and the results.

I'm an engineer too (though not an electrical eng, you guys are special). In my world, form follows function. If it looks nice but doesn't work, it's useless (and worthless). If it functions properly, AND looks pretty at the end of the day, that's a bonus.

Keep cranking out cool circuits that sound good, and people will buy them regardless of how many (or few) options you give them for finishes. Honestly, I don't know anyone else offering choices on finish colours, so that was a bonus from the start, IMO.

In my meaningless opinion, powder coated and laser etched was the bee's knees. I think that was a big part of the original draw to SB.

Perhaps. For me it was a non issue. If it looks cool then that works for me.

Shrug. Don’t censor yourself on my account. Some people put a lot of value on aesthetics, and that’s fine. To each their own. My opinion is, As above, aesthetic choices should at a minimum be functional first (ie writing should be legible). Beyond that, anything goes.

So I really like this pedal. Worth the wait. I played my Pbass with flats into my Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 (cleanest amp I own) set flat. Nice warm tone.

I set the pedal switches off, treble and bass at noon, gain set to 11. I ran it through my LS-2 so I could A/B the pedal. Definitely has a warm tube tone that I like.

Upping the gain for a little grind sounds nice as well.

Aesthetics depend on "what you like", AKA "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

I'm really happy with the look of my flat black PA, could probably live with anything, really.

However, I will say that I find some versions of the Edison pedal very appealing, and some very "meh". Some very imaginative finishes have been offered.

I do really like the look of some of SB sparkle color offerings. Expensive to offer, but you could probably name your price on "Custom Orders", even with a limited palette.

Look at it another way: Josh is not exactly offering up color variations and not sure he ever did. While lucky to get a blue Slampegg, if less color choice and more standardization equates to more output, is it really a bad thing to let Sushi do what works?

So, I don't really have a chicken in this race, as I think pretty much every design I've seen yet looks fabulous.

Well, one clucker is that I've enjoyed the customization options, so I'd better walk that hen back a bit.

But, Señor Sushi, if you really don't want to be bugged with powdercoating very often, what if you converted that process to something that's offered as an occasional Special Edition for select pedals at select times?

I'm the happy owner of a Subdecay Super Spring Theory reverb, and the minute I discovered a sweet blue limited edition version was on offer, I skipped over great used deals to buy a brand new one in that color.

And I didn't get the Subdecay because it was Subdecay, I got it because I found they took a fresh approach to the spring reverb sound. And there's far more savvy pedal hunters out there who (as we certainly know here) like this whole lineup and what they do. So limited edition runs would, IMHO, be a source of excitement all around. Just sayin'!

Not that anyone needs my 2c AT ALL. Haha. But I do admit, at first I thought it was pretty cool they were so customizable. And what did I order? An Orange LU and a matte black Slampegg! Hahaha. So daring and original.

at the end of the day, asthetics are cool, but I would never buy or not buy a pedal based on that alone. it needs to sound great and if it sounds great that’s what really matters.

There have been many amazing very sought after pedals With very uninspiring finishes.

Cool finishes, graphics, etc are awesome but it’s also very subjective. And putting myself in the builders shoes, I can see how it’s impossible To offer in insane amount of options for every single pedal.

I think there’s been a lot of very good suggestions in the thread… Upcharges for custom finishes. Maybe limited edition finishes available in a given month. Maybe having options available but less options.... And it’s still super cool being able to pick your LED color and knob color.

Whatever. Make them all brown with green letters and I’ll still buy them…

I guess I'm just hoping I can still get more pedals in that violet sparkle down the road it looks so awesome and I don't know anyone else offering custom finishes on pedals one of the coolest features about these besides sounding awesome and having unique features. I know down the line Im gonna be looking into possibly replacing my custom verellen meatsmoke pre it sounds good but the eq is abit tough to dial in and the high gain is too noisy and uncontrollable. I am digging the slampeg x, space heater, and westinghouse designs alot and I cant wait to see what you come up with for that swr iod inspired design. I'm gonna be keeping my eyes peeled to see what kind of crazy stuff you come up with. I'm not sure what my next purchase flavor is gonna be yet but I know I'm gonna be getting some more sushi in the future.
