Got a new Underground Accelerator in the mail yesterday, not in time for last nights gig but got to play around with it some this morning. Great pedal, well made, dead silent, and very responsive. Unfortunately its not going to work for what I am looking for, so thought I'd post it up here before I put it into the classifieds.

I play upright bass in a pretty loud NewGrass band - most of the time with an Eminence EUB with a Krivo magnetic pickup. I was looking for a pedal that would fatten up the bass a bit without really adding much grit to the sound. It does exactly that with my full-size bass with a piezo pickup, but with the EUB with magnetic pickup, if I bring the gain up at all the tone gets more gritty/fuzzy/distorted than I like. So I don't think this pedal is "the one".

You could put in a lower gain tube, such as a 12AT7 or 12AU7 and that would most likely remove the grit and keep the character of the pedal.

thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if I can put my hands on one. It was really eye-opening to see how big a difference there is between a bass with a piezo pickup and one with a magnetic pickup. With the piezo, the UA sounds round and warm - even with the gain up to 9or 10 o'clock. With the mag pickup, It sounds more like a dirt pedal.

So in my world of excess I'm putting together multiple boards for various purposes. I've left a slot on the left board for my inbound FK. the MXR comp may stay but I have a 2nd Hyper Luminal loaned out at the moment that may take it's place.
The Harmonic Booster into the clean SS channel is about to be my permanent tone. The magic there isn't just the tone, but the extra felt umph it causes to pulse from the cabs.

I tried a few different setups this morning and settled on this. Then played 'til my fretting hand stopped working.

I've got the VTDI spicing up the Dr. on channel A, and the SS --> octave --> envelope on channel B.

Question about the Smoke Signal:

How much work would it be to mod it to have two clean channels?

Why let the ballgame stop you? My preferred way to view any professional sports broadcast is to provide my own live score. While I often enjoy a good game, I universally despise the commentary. Music room and tv room are one on the same, problem solved.

How much work would it be to mod it to have two clean channels?

It would need a complete redesign. I could clean up the dirty channel by reducing the gain, but doing two identical clean channels would be invasive to the point if needing a redesigned board.

Part if what made mine great is I think I have a pretty good meat:beans ratio. It's not quite 2:1, but it's close to 2:1.

Also had a little more time to actually play some instruments today. So here's my official NPD. Echosaurus is gone, but ironically replaced by a TRex. As far as options, size, cost, and quality I think Echosaurus is great and hard to beat, but I really wanted tape tone. Not emulated tape tone, plenty of those around, real tape tone. Accidentally found a good deal and found myself unable to say no. My pedalboard weighs about as much as my amp now.

Cool, thanks! I was just asking in case it was just a matter of changing resistor values.

A 12au7 does reduce the gain and makes it cleaner, but def still a dirty channel.
