I use only a BOSS PSA by itself with my smoke Signal. I had a similar issue where the lights were on but no one was home when I used my voodoo lab power and with the ciocks dc5. These tube pedals really want all the juice to themselves.

I'd suggest trying to duplicate the scenario again at home as closely as you can to the actual gig conditions . It seems like it may have been heat related as things warmed up and got toasty it shut down . Or as the Senor said it could have been a power issue but since it worked ok when first fired up and then later on at home again - that seems less likely to me - unless your power supply has an issue with extended use and high power drain . There could also have been an issue with the AC power supply at the gig so lots to check out for sure . One last thought is could it be the replacement tube that becomes intermittent once really warmed up ? ....KellyWhole thing was really strange - the UA was still powered up, but couldn't get any signal from the pedalboard. Cables were all good, eventually took each pedal out of the chain one at a time and it was the UA that seemed to be the problem, even though it was still on. worked through all of the connections today and all looked ok and worked fine. Have another gig later in the week and will see what happens.
i dont think power was an issue, I use a Truetone power brick. The UA was connected to a 9v cable, I've since switched it to 12V. I'll spend more time with it at home and see if I can replicate the problem.Well that's not the sort of thing I want happening. Can I ask what you were powering it with? Was power daisy chained with anything, and if so what? The vast majority of problems people have with my pedals are power-related, so that's always going to be the first thing I ask.
Reliability is a huge deal, making a pedal that sounds good only gets you so far if you can't trust the pedal to work 100% of the time, so if there's ever anything like this going on I absolutely want to know about it. Thanks for bringing it up and I hope it was just a fluke and doesn't happen again.
The tube thing is possible - I'll leave it running for a while at home. It had only been on for a short while at the gig before cutting out - did a quick sound check then we started about 15 minutes later, worked fine at check but didnt when we started.I'd suggest trying to duplicate the scenario again at home as closely as you can to the actual gig conditions . You might want to try running it under operating conditions [ as if you were gigging ] since being used hard may be different than simply having it on - just a thought anyway . All mere speculation of course until you can recreate the failure or be certain it won't happen again . That also may apply to the pedal itself if there is any sort of heat related fault in it . At least you know Nathan will take great care of you should it be a pedal issue ... Best of luck - KellyThe tube thing is possible - I'll leave it running for a while at home. yes, with the pedal off it still wouldnt pass a signal. When I pulled it off the board I was back in business.@bherman When it wasn't working, did you try bypassing it with the footswitch? That's a mechanical switch (not a soft relay), so if even the footswitch bypass didn't work, there's probably only a few things that could go wrong.
Thx Kelly - I'm not concerned, I know that Nathan will make it right if there's a problem. I don't think it was load-related, I played for just a few minutes before we started, something I always do after I set up to make sure everything is working ok, and it was. The problem was when I came back to stage and we were starting our first set, no sound. Didnt have time then to diagnose (beyond seeing if a cable was loose or something simple like that) so just plugged straight into the amp. It wasnt until a break that I was able to try an isolate the problem. You might want to try running it under operating conditions [ as if you were gigging ] since being used hard may be different than simply having it on - just a thought anyway . Another consideration depending on the venue where you are playing are changes between sound check and the "Live with audience" situation and where you are sourcing your power. Very often the power outlets at the front of the stage are tied to other circuits that may sag in voltage or get very noisy once the full PA or house lights come up that could have an effect on high power demand pedals like @Sushi Box FX Tube equipped devices as well as many with advanced digital processors. I've also had a problem at a particular venue once the house decor lighting was turned on that had a lot of vintage neon signs and TVs on the same circuit as the courtesy outlets at the front and sides of stage. I've also had a noise issue when playing with a particular "artist" that insists on using an ancient ungrounded amplifier that wreaks unholy havoc everywhere she goes, it drives everyone nuts with the noise and ghosts in the machine. I have a particular set up just for her, that is as good as it gets.Thx Kelly - I'm not concerned, I know that Nathan will make it right if there's a problem. Dont think so in this case - it was a small bar with a very minimal pa and no house lighting.Another consideration depending on the venue where you are playing are changes between sound check and the "Live with audience" situation and where you are sourcing your power. Hilarious! This is a really unusual bar, it’s owned by an older woman who’s kind of made it a haven for the local gay community as well as old farts like me who just like to go there and play music. It’s around the corner from the county courthouse, and one of our bandmates is a public defender anf all of his work mates hang out there. One of them was leaving, and we had a big, wild going away party.A bar with no decor lighting? View attachment 4472705
Sounds boring. View attachment 4472706

Actually that sounz like my kinda place, peace. Compared to some of the Texas dives I all to often play that would be heavenly.Hilarious! Yeah it’s a special place.Actually that sounz like my kinda place, peace. Compared to some of the Texas dives I all to often play that would be heavenly.
That's a red flag. These are mechanically-actuated (i.e. no relays) true bypass, bypassing the pedal should have at least...you know...bypassed the pedal.yes, with the pedal off it still wouldnt pass a signal. When I pulled it off the board I was back in business.
Did he change anything musically inside? ie tube, tranny, filters? there's mad DIY "mods" out there that are done to these due to their spaciousness. I've heard clips of one that almost sounded identical to an SVT (just quieter), you lose the og sound but still none the less, dig deep into some of the UK groups if you're interestedView attachment 4471918 View attachment 4471919 View attachment 4471920
She's made it home! It sounds so good, the pots don't scratch anymore and the lights look great! Unfortunately the left side leds didn't survive the shipping from Chicago to Southern Georgia but that's alright, should be a quick fix once I get her open.
Thanks again @Sushi Box FX !

Can you get me a picture of the inside when you have a chance? Not passing bypass signal makes me wonder if a a wire is broken/loose.
Nothing crazy, just the dummy load on the 4ohm so I can DI without a cab.
