The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

That's a red flag. These are mechanically-actuated (i.e. no relays) true bypass, bypassing the pedal should have at least...you know...bypassed the pedal.

Can you get me a picture of the inside when you have a chance? Not passing bypass signal makes me wonder if a a wire is broken/loose.

Looking closely at it, I don't see anything that appears to be loose. It does look like the black wire from the input jack may be touching the case -is that ok?

Yup, black wires touching case is okay, those are ground wires and already electrically connected to the case through the jack. Red wires touching the case would be bad though, and that would absolutely prevent signal passing even in bypass. It doesn't look like that's the case though.

No, all looks intact. I'll mess with it more later today and see if I can replicate the problem. It may have been a fluke......

Looking at the UA guts, what are the dip switches for?
I think I still need to do some more thorough testing to determine if it's worth keeping in there, but some of the newer UAs have switchable MOSFET input/output buffers. Nobody has had any impedance matching issues with UA, but it came up every now and then with PAX so I thought I would experiment with using high-voltage MOSFETs for buffers. There are a couple LND150 you can see in there on the right side (Q3 and Q4), I like them because I can run them on the same 235V rail as the tube.

Initial tests showed that they work fine, but I've had one person try them out and they didn't. So I haven't documented them on the website or written up any usage guide on them yet, I want to do some more thorough testing and if they work consistently (again, shooting for 100% reliability) I'll keep them in and put some instructions online, if not I'll pull them out. Either way the DIP switches allow them to be completely bypassed, so they do not impact the circuit at all when not in use.

Thanks for the info. I don’t remember if I opened up my UA, but I definitely would have remembered the switches.

Yeah it wasn't on the first or second batch of them, I think it started with the third batch of UA, can't remember which month that was.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering what's going on with the November batch, I'm working on it. All enclosures have been milled, everything has been powdercoated except rainbow's end and anything that needs a clearcoat. I'm hoping to finish up the printing tonight and maybe get more powdercoating done. The goal is to have all enclosures finished up by this weekend so I can move into assembly, with the end goal of having the November batch completed by Thanksgiving.

I may take tomorrow off on account of it being my birthday.
