I would hope Chicago would have a vibrant community, there are several genuine Mongolian restaurants not too far from my abode here in Central Texas that are quite good. I regret that Mongolia was a part of the World I was not able to see when touring due to politics I would have loved to have experienced the people, food, music and culture.

There are a couple actual Mongolian restaurants around here that we visit, as there's a fairly large Mongolian population in the Chicago area. They think I'm neat because there aren't a lot of white dudes that speak Mongolian.

If you're even in a real Mongolian restaurant I would recommend, in order of my preference,

1) хуушуур (huushuur or khuushuur)
2) цуйван (tsuivan)
3) бууз (buuz)

They're the dishes Americans tend to like the most. I generally like Mongolian food better in America because it's typically made with better meat and more spices.

Thanks, Ill keep that in mind. My days of adventure cuisine are far behind me but in my touring daze I was very open to trying all sorts of things, unusual things I sometimes shudder to recall. My extended times in Africa, Japan, Hong Kong and Eastern Europe were interesting.

OK so I'm gonna bang on a bit more with some Slampegg questions!!

My current pedalboard preamp is the lowly but useable Tone Hammer DI. I usually go for a thick, old school rock tone. P-Bass, roundwounds, pick, treble backed off 50-70%, bass at 2 o'clock and treble anywhere between 9 and 12 o'clock on the TH. This gets me in the ballpark of the tone I want, but I also like to here some mild to medium overdrive that I currently get from a Billy Sheehan Deluxe drive pedal. I really don't like the tone of the AGS overdrive from the TH DI, and the Billy Sheehan drive, while sounding good has it's own definite flavour so.....I'm liking the idea of a tube style overdrive.

After all that explanation how saturated do the older mini-tube Slampegg Bee pedals get? I don't need crazy. Scubaduba has some clips on his Tube preamp megathread, but most of these sound fairly clean to me.....is the Slampegg able to generate some decent tube overdrive to add some growl and wool?

Or is there maybe a better Sushi Box pedal to do what I'm asking? I'm thinking of asking Santa for something.

I cannot comment on the Slampegg, because I've never played one - but my Underground Accelerator does something my Tonehammer cannot do (I don't have the pedal, I have the amp - where I consider the drive+gain thing a lot better than the brutal AGS switch on the pedal which jumps the volume so hard it's basically unusable):
Hovering just on the brink. My UA is set so you'd think it is clean. Then you slide up past the 12th fret and play a double stop on the skinny stings and there is a saturated singing and a slight overdrive in the overtones. It starts very subtle, but when you increase the gain it gets more saturated.
The Tonehammer, in direct comparison is chunky. It's more of a roar, akin to an angry moose with a nasty cold.
The Underground Accelerator is more graceful in the way it glides over from a clean signal to a dirty one, and the texture is finer. More like a healthy moose in good spirits.

People with Smoke Signals might chime in here - I think this might be even more up your alley, since it features a clean channel that can go a bit dirty on its own with a dirty channel stacked on top that goes from a slight overdrive to a signal so dirty you need to rinse it off with a hose before you let it into your house.
I'm still waiting on mine . . .

I just realized I didn't answer that one. Slampegg can absolutely get some dirt on it. Slampegg is my go-to when I play bass and I like just a little grit on it, but it's capable of more than I use, though definitely not crazy amounts of distortion.

Slampegg X will get more dirt as the 6N21B has a gain factor of 70 and 12AX7 has a gain factor of 100.

Will we ever see a Sushi Trace Elliot preamp?

Like modeled from the V4 or V6 Trace tube amps, or perhaps from the hybrid SMX Trace amps?

The SMX amps featured a tube gain stage in the preamp section that you could blend in, for adjustable tube coloration, and they also featured the 2 band Trace compressor.`

Though I would be cool with a Trace SMX tube preamp even without the 2 band compressor feature added, though I think this could still be a cool feature to incorporate.

These amps still have quite a dedicated following, especially in Europe, though I admit not really having any idea if it would be a viable idea from a business point of view.

But I do know such a unit would definitely get an instant first place on my GAS list though.
