The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Just got a fresh SushiBox delivery! Finally!
Immediately installed a vintage 12AX7 long plate tube and powered it by 12v from an ISO 5 block.

Mine's currently on the way from Chicago to Dallas. From there it'll fly to Frankfurt and be stuck in customs for an unspecified period of time that can range from a few hours up to ten days. Once it's released, DHL takes another two days until I can claim it. I'll start being excited around Wednesday ;-)
My Fluffy Kitten has just left Chicago, and now it's out in the ether between US and Canada where tracking numbers don't seem to apply any more.

Anyone wanna sell a Dr. Watson :D??? ... asking for a friend. That friend is me

There is a possibility that in the near future I will need to part with mine. I love it. I like it more than I did my LU. In fact, it stands out among all the Sushi Box pedals I've tried. However, I need to remove some tone stacks in my always on chain. I have a planned replacement for it, but I have no way of knowing when that will be available, and I can't live without it in the mean time. So the answer is: YES, I want to sell it but NO I can't sell it YET!

Please keep me in mind anytime you decide to part with it. I am waiting on the next available one. DM me any time.

666 the Order Number of the Beast?

Anyway, Mr. Box posted a pic of this a week ago. True story, about the order number.
The Black Eye is already getting a workout on my guitar. It's awesome. I think my 2 favorite things about it are the tone control swings from down in the dregs to high chime, I am usually pretty happy when my guitar's neck pickup is a little dirty but also a little sparkly. This is thick as a brick on lead styles.

Like the Sashimi too. It's really in a good spot for me. It reminds me a little of my Bray. It's in that bluesy range, a gainy, classic fuzz, not in the velcro range at all. It gets dirty but it's not grinding bricks. I really dig it and will screw with it on bass later today. Got the postal notice so I guess I'm done pretending to work for the next couple hours!

Quick review of the Finally Tube DI. (Only about 45 minutes of testing so far)

Excellent! No hiss. Sounds great. The purpose was to replace the SVTDI box I sold a while back.
It seems to make everything sound a little bit fuller and maybe even a hair more defined and noticeable. Not meant to be a tone changer. Just a slight enhancement.
I’m being careful to not make volume increases. The Level knob is very sensitive. I have the Gain set to about 1 o’clock. Vintage 12AX7 strong tested tube (I ordered the pedal without a tube because I have a plethora of them), running at 12v.
Very clean. No frequency changes at all. I test everything using the Visual EQ on the computer.

I think the Finally Tube DI pedal could also be used by those people who play those “6 string piccolo basses” (I think they call them guitars) ;) , as a “full time boost pedal”. Kind of like the Barbershop pedal is used, just without the footswitch.
For fun, I tried it in front of my one pedal as a boost, but the goodness it previously added got lost in the pedal after it.

Disclaimer: I’m using new strings, with and without one other pedal for testing (Microtubes X7). Using my Flea Jazz bass with my natural “warm & fleshy” finger tone. Listening with Sony 7506 headphones (so I can hear everything). Not tested through an amp yet.

I hope that helps. I will certainly use it for my next YouTube recording.
Cheers!

So I received 1 of the 2 sushi boxes today and to my surprise it's the UA (Finally left IL after sitting there for a few days). I've never changed to a new pedal so fast on my main board. I can finally add some awesome touch sensitive grit without changing the character of my tone when I flip it on. I still enjoy what it replaced but this is what I've been looking for! Now I can't wait for the Finally!
