To anyone who’s used the Slampegg, would you say that it’s more B15, or does it do a convincing SVT sound? Or somewhere in between? What’s the general vibe? My beloved other brand Ampeggy preamp pedal may have just bit the dust. I’m going to get it checked out, but this handwired biz has me mildly intrigued.

See my review earlier in this thread. I'd say the Slampegg is more of a v2 B15 or B25 and the OG Slampegg is more classic B15. If you want SVT, IMO the Slampegg is not your pedal.

So to answer a question that has been asked several times now via PM, if you have a January order that you're considering holding off on and waiting for the handwired version, you would be looking at April at the earliest. I think that's realistically the minimum amount of time I need to get everything tested, revised (HWUA already needs a fix to prevent explosion), re-tested, and organized. Trying not to rush things.

I don't like saying no to people, so if that's what you want to do, let me now in the next couple days. So far it looks like only Dr. Wattson and Finally will be drop-in replacements for the existing versions, which means the enclosures will be different for everything else, and I'm working on enclosures right now, so I'm setting a cut-off of the 10th of this month (yes, just a few days) to let me know, otherwise I have to proceed with orders as they stand so as not to waste time and materials.

There will be an upcharge for the handwired versions, but I haven't had time to sit down and do the math as to how much it will be. I will try to do that in the next day or two.

Just got my Space Heater in the mail today. I sorta forgot about power supply, so I haven't tried it yet. What power are you Sushi users using? Would basic universal 9v - 12v power supply work?

I have had good performance from CIOKS and Walrus board supply and walk warts from multiple sources at 9V. The pedals with 2 or more tubes would rather have 12V in my experience.

Thanks for the recommendations. I just ordered a 9v 500mA from Walrus Audio. Very reasonable @ fifteen $.

I think the original SH is one of Sushi's best designs, difficult to top it.

Absolutely nothing

I was trying to decide if I wanted to add "HW" or something somewhere, but I don't really like the way it looks, plus that's one more thing for me to mess up during printing. Most of the new handwired models will look different just from the enclosure, i.e. the single tube models will have the tube off to the side instead of in the middle, and dual tube pedals in the smaller enclosure are no longer possible with handwired. So far the only ones that you won't be able to tell apart just looking at the box are Finally and DW, but I will give people the option to upgrade the boards in existing units so there will be handwired circuits in old boxes anyway.

The other option is design completely new artwork for the entire handwired line, which I haven't ruled out, but as a non-artist I'm hesitant to do so.

So I'm working on a new handwired design for SH as well. I still may discontinue it down the road if people decide it isn't worth having over UA or Finally, but it's a neat little box, and my first not-based-on-any-one-specific-thing preamp I ever released, so I'm always going to be proud of it.

Hey Senor - FWIW - I can’t see any reason to redesign any of the artwork at all unless the tube placement differences mess up the OG graphics . The art work is really sweet as is and dedicating a lot of time to redo it will cut into other more important aspects - such as new models , pre release testing and quality control . Your plate is full enough ! No sense piling any more on ….. Wait hold that thought - Since you mentioned it (Not ! ) don’t forget the upcoming mic pre and low power tube amp we’re waiting on …… Kelly

@Kelly robinson That... an a nifty 12 ax based 3 or 4 channel mixer... or summing amplifier with channel on/off. Would be ever so sweet to be able front end that with a UAx, Slampegg X and the HWSH 1 per bass... then onto the rest of my chain...

Excellent point, as the HW editions already have a different printing on the baseplate.

I received my HWSH friday at last It's beautiful and it sounds great, I'm very happy with it.

I was lucky they didn't charge international taxes, they usually do, that's impredictable - So I kind of won 2 lotteries: the Sushi lottery and the Tax lottery

My G&L L-2000 have a very hot signal even in passive mode, so the pedal goes from clean at 9 to overdrive at 11. I'd like to try to swap the 12AX7 with a 12AT7 or a 12AU7 in order to have a greater adjustement range between clean and overdrive.

Do you think it's safe to try tube swapping?

Yup, absolutely safe. You may find it easier to remove the input jack to get better access to the tube, you just need a 12mm wrench to do so.

A 5751 tube might be all you need to do that. And then the 12AT7 if necessary. The 12AU7 tends to affect tone much more than the other two.
