I just want to underline here your commitment to your customers, without name anybody most people that conceive boutique musical instruments are passionate peoples and you are no exception. Thanks for the kind words, that really means a lot to me. I've had enough experiences of plugging into a new pedal and feeling like I never want to turn it off because it feels like what I want to sound like forever, I really enjoy hearing that people are having those experiences with my pedals.
On that note, I just finished final assembly for everything in the July batch except the HW SS. I need to sleep now, but I should have enough free time tomorrow to (barring unforeseen circumstances) get everything finished up, tested, and shipped.
Also for those that have been waiting for news on the DIY Space Heater boards, it's ready to go, I have enclosures ready to mill and be offered with it, but I'm waiting until July batch is finished before getting it listed on the site.
Thanks for the word!! I had not been setting the EQ like that, so the REAL flat test will be coming up soon.
Please don't get me thinking about the UA when the mini PA just arrived with the Slampegg around the corner jajaja! Words are useless to describe sounds, but the way could put it is warmth and dimension. Like my bass was a black and white 2D image and then it went to technicolor 3D. I love the Ampeg B-style tonestack (big fan of the Broughton Fliptop too), so to say I'm excited about the Slampegg is putting it lightly.
Guilty and unashamed. When I set out to test myself through a buttload of preamp pedals, the one thing I thought I wanted was a massive bass that is absolutely clean. I ruled out tube pedals at the beginning until I learned that there are some builders (like Mr. Sushi) that step up the internal voltage to numbers serious enough to really hurt you (and therefore, properly drive a tube), but do it with a pedal that is fed 9V and runs off your pedalboard PSU (if you have a good one). I also learned that if I wanted clean, massive lows, the Alembic F-2 B is what I'm looking for and the PA is basically that, but in a pedalboard friendly size.
The PA went on my board and I knew I could stop my search right there, It got me where I wanted to go.
I think @bassbrad is to blame. Not only did he insist that I try the PA, he also told me I'd like the UA better.
I remained sceptical, but ordered one nonetheless. From what I gathered, all the UA does is break up earlier and nicer - but I wanted clean sound.
If I compare my UA with my PA, the UA has that big area on the gain where you don't have audible distortion, but you're close. The PA stays perfectly clean in the same range. The UA gets a certain warmth in the tone.
Imagine a bench in a subway station. That is the PA. If you're looking for a place to sit, this will safely support your bum. It'll also have back support. And if it gets dirty, you can easily clean it off. It just works. It is sturdy and reliable.
The UA, on the other side, is that leather couch that stood in your parents' living room for at least two decades before they took the opportunity to re-do that room when you moved out into your first own place and they gave that couch to you.
It's got your bum-shape worked into the cushions at your favorite spot. It's not pristine. It's not exactly shiny. It's not surgically clean .... but damn, you just fall right into it and you feel the comfort only a lover's embrace can give you.
I kept the PA, but mostly because it's not exactly easy to find another one should I regret selling it.
It really does sound great. I’ve been gigging with it for several months now, and it just flat out sounds great. You guys are not helping me fight the urge to buy a DW...
Oh man, that brings back memories. That's one of the OLD ones from when I was in California, and is one of two that have the Higgs-Boson artwork on the top. The only other one like that has red knobs if I recall correctly. Glad you're enjoying it, and I'd be more than happy to answer any questions if you're looking into anything else.View attachment 4767310
Picked up the Particle Accelerator mini in a trade recently. Wasn't sure what to expect since it's my first time using a tube pedal. Pretty familiar with preamps and various tonestacks, so felt good there. This blew me away from the get-go.
I play passive basses and usually have boosts at the front of my chain, my favorite has been the Xotic RC Bass. So far, I've put this first with flat EQ and other preamps at the end. I've also tested it by itself and honestly prefer it that way. The breakup with the gain up at 3 o'clock sounds so sweet and full and warm. It's just a fantastic sound.
I've got a Slampegg X on the way and the PA mini just made me even more excited than I was before.
I vaguely remember doing that one. It turned out pretty neat, I'm sure it will wind up in a loving home.A nice early Mini tube Lab Rat, with OEM mod to be more bass friendly in the classifieds.
No current affiliation, but I can recommend and have had personal experience with this one!
Well that's disappointing to hear, sorry about that. Psvane are supposed to be a higher end tube than JJ, but this is the second instance I'm hearing of a Psvane going bad prematurely. My tube supplier finally filled by old backorder for JJ/Tesla 12AX7 so I have a bunch in stock and am using JJ/Tesla for August, I'll be keeping that in mind when I evaluate which brand to use going forward.Well, it took 63 years to finally experience my first tube failure. (Maybe that’s because I’ve always been a Traynor man). One of the Psvane 12ax7’s on my Dr. Wattson took a long nap. I tried an RCA and Motorola tube, one was extra farty, and the other broke up too soon. The unbranded “Made in USA” sounded pretty close to the stock. So there it is.
I’m not sure it’s the 2 tubes that make a difference, it might be the different EQ/tone stack. The UA has a fender style mid scoop, while the DW seems to have a mid bump I think? I’m not too familiar with Hiwatt, I just like the soundI have a SMD UA and love it. So much that I bought the handwired Smoke Screen, as its got essentially a UA, and then another channel of extra dirt. But there seems to be more love for the Dr Wattson here. I gather that runs 2 tubes all the time, whereas the SS runs 1 per channel. So is 2 tubes better than one? Must be? Do I need to reconsider? Anyone compared the 2? Not sure I can just get both
Smoke Signal is not one tube per channel. The clean (blue) channel uses a single tube, but the dirt (red) channel doesn't disconnect the stages used by the clean channel, it only adds to them. So the clean channel uses a single tube, but the dirt channel uses both tubes.I have a SMD UA and love it. So much that I bought the handwired Smoke Screen, as its got essentially a UA, and then another channel of extra dirt. But there seems to be more love for the Dr Wattson here. A two channel pedal with UA as the clean channel and DW as the dirt channel sure would be neat though.

Duly noted, I can get in and add some extra options. I've added DHL options for several countries, but I don't think I have anything but USPS for you yet. Shipping options need to be added manually one at a time, so it takes some time to get things added.Mr. Box - I don't know If I already suggested my suggestion and if you acutally replied your reply already, but you see, I came prepared. My Dell Laptop has a battery life of roughly 9 hours. I have a powerful powerbank that powers it for another 18. At 8:08 this morning I was notified that my Sushi order is finished and I was supplied a USPS tracking number. I will be clicking refresh on the USPS tracking website every 4-6 minutes for the next ten days. This is tedious work. If you had the option to send via UPS, I'd gladly pay the extra. As soon as UPS has picked up the item, I'll be notified that my parcel will arrive at my place on Aug 4th, the time window will be 1:15 - 1:17 and apologies for the smell of garlic on the breath of the UPS delivery driver, but he had a kebab for lunch at 12:23. The funky bit is that I won't have to look again. There will be no complications. I'll get my parcel Thursday afternoon and the guy will smell a bit garlicky.
Noted, the voltage of that one doesn't really matter. As long as it's above 25V it should be fine, won't be any difference in operation either way.@Sushi Box FX
I'm going over the BOM for the Space Heater.
I've noticed that C8 is listed as a 1n5 50v capacitor, yet it links to a 1n5 100v capacitor.
Now there are 2. Ordered an HWUA.There are still 4 slots left in the August batch, does anybody want to grab one last minute, or am I okay to close August ordering?
