The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

|rant on|
The waiting game is killing me.
My HWUA has left the US on Aug 4th and has hit German customs on the same day.
Tracking update Aug 5th (morning): Held in customs.
Tracking update Aug 5th (noon): En route to the destination.
Tracking update Aug 6th(morning): Held in customs.
Tracking update Aug 6th(noon): Underground Accelerator going dark. Over and Out.

Nothing has happened since.
I know from past experiences that most likely, the mailman will show up and bring me a much anticipated Sushi Box in exchange for the customs fee - before the tracking updates again - but this period has taken 1-10 days in the past and I loathe every second of it.

thanks for listening.
I feel you. A (non Sushi) pedal I ordered last christmas was stuck in Dutch customs for months until it finally arrived in March. The pain is real, hang in there!

I had to re-stock on some boards I was running low on for August builds, so it seemed a good time to pick this up.

Well Elementary sounds freaking good. Like Dr. Wattson is going to be borderline obsolete. The clean tone is absolutely there, and even without that extra gainstage that DW has, with the gain dimed you still can get a very usable moderate drive tone. I'm going to find some time, maybe this weekend, and do an A/B with this and a full size DW and compare them. Because it's seriously making me consider pulling one of my better selling pedals.

One of my tidier layouts too.

I'm down with getting an Elementary once it's added to the lineup.

Very interesting. Alimentary for an alternative name with Shark artwork.

I like that you have the tube off to one side and, I assume, the controls on the other. I never did care for the look of the pedals with the tube center and controls on either side.

While you’re doing your comparison, could you try using a SH if front of the Elementary as a boost to see how that compares to the Dr Watson?

I'm excited the Elementary is turning out so good, but I would hate to see the DW go away. I understand they would be nearly the same pedal and keeping both would be double the work/inventory but I'd be hesitant to discontinue something that sells as well as the DW.

I agree......my 02.= try and come up with a tweak to Dr. Watson to make it less redundant/keep it relevant.......perhaps Sherlock will be the matching compressor.....

thanks for listening.

It‘s exactly the same for me! Also waiting on the HW UA in Germany, also no tracking update since 6th, so also suspecting it‘s still held up in customs in Frankfurt.

I had another order (no electronics) from the US arriving 2 weeks ago and it was only like 1 day held up in customs. But I found out, that you can use the USPS tracking number as DHL tracking number after it passed customs and DHL is in charge of delivering it.

But until then, DHL doesn’t know about the tracking number, which is still the case now. So it‘s most likely that the guy who calculates customs rates for fx pedals is currently sipping Mochitos somewhere in the Caribbean while being on vacation.

Regarding shipping glitches.......I believe the cup is 90% full. I know there are frequent headaches...having lived much of my life straddling the Can/US border and having shipped a silly amount of gear both ways (as well as internationally) over the years....but in the end, I consider it nothing short of miraculous that 95% of the time (19/20), stuff can get shot across this crazy, flying, overpopulated, chaotic, communal rock and be casually dropped on the doorstep of a specific destination on a different continent. Homo Sapiens has been around for about 200K years, and travel by any means other than bipedal locomotion, beast of burden or boat has only "been a thing" for about 150, which amounts to "a moment ago" in geologic time. It's a happy Thursday...I had a 1/2 hour with this board before going to work, and the smile will last all day....the UA is pre-comp for touch sensitivity and set fairly clean, whereas the SH is set get rather dirty....yielding 3 different tube flavours.

Well it looks like I will need to put some in-stock pedals up for sale soon. I made a big impulse buy yesterday that I probably shouldn't have, so I need to cover it before my wife looks through the books :P

It was a lot of money for a pedal, especially since it's a pedal I already know how to make, but it's my favorite pedal in the world and I decided that dammit I want the original, if for no other reason than nostalgia.

So I'm focusing on August builds as well as a couple repairs/mods that have come in, but I have 10 or so in-stock builds that are ready to go, just need to be put into the site.

All that explanation and you’re not even going to tell us what pedal you bought?

Probably a gold plated Klon. I’d hide the cost of that one too.
I would consider buying an original Klon if the price was right, but I would probably never use it. Never cared much for the Klon sound.

The Soldano GTO on the other hand, that is my sound on guitar. My (now discontinued, except for the DIY version) Black Eye is my take on the GTO, and I never play guitar without a Black Eye. Recording, casual bedroom jamming, playing with friends, songwriting, it doesn't matter. My guitar doesn't get plugged in unless a Black Eye gets plugged in with it.
