Start flat (bass & treble at 5). The link below will show you how various passive tone stacks actually work. Note that there is no way to boost mids with a Baxandall stack. Therefore I find an HPF extremely helpful, since it allows you to boost everything below 1K with bass and then cut back the boom zone with the hpf, otherwise I prefer to use my Slampegg and UA (which uses a Fender stack) in tandem with an active preamp so I can have MUCH finer control.

Mmkay, I now have SBVT II, Glass Butterfly, and Dreamcatcher (ooh, mysterious) in the hands of local bassists for 3rd party testing. Their responses will determine whether or not these three will be available for December ordering or if they need more time.

If you ever need another tester just let me know... I live in a suburb on the South end of Chicago. It's called Fort Worth Texas... just down the road a bit from your place.

Friendly reminder that I will be closing ordering tomorrow morning. I would say closing tonight at midnight, but realistically it makes more sense for me to close it tomorrow during the day when I can actually get things done with it as opposed to arbitrarily shutting it off at midnight.

So if you're planning to order, you probably have about 22 hours to do so.

I believe the SlampeggX is actually more akin to the James tone stack. Baxandall incorporates a negative feedback loop that the James does not is my recollection. I do reserve the right to be wrong though...

If it is James then 'apparent' mid boost happens when bass and treble are cut.

I liked my SlampeggX a lot. If the Arkham Oracle wasn't so damned seductive, I'd still have the Slamegg X.

I also usually run my SB FX preamps into a Mesa Subway DI+ The Mesa is there to solve EQ problems, function as the HPF and Andy's DI is about as good as they come.

The MORE has been a revelation for everything I have run through it from one of my passive basses than I already loved the sound of to my Ibanez UB804 and even when recording a soft synth or something from VCVrack it added a very nice detail. Currently it is paired with a Southampton Ictineo lending it's magic to the mystery of that tone improver.

My Elementary showed up yesterday. I haven't had a chance to play with it in the wild (meaning out of the house) but based on my headphones only comparison of my new Elementary with my Dr. Wattson, the Elementary is exactly what Senor Sushi says it is: a Dr. Wattson with a more useful gain structure. To my ears, the Elementary sounds exactly like its older brother, but because there is less gain on tap its much easier to dial in lower amounts of always-on gain, though there is way more than enough high gain fun available. It sounds freakin' great! One thing to know with any faithful reproduction of the HiWatt tone stack like these is that a bit of mid-scoop is inevitable. According to a bench test of the Reeves 225 (a wonderful HiWatt DR103 clone), the closest you can get to flat is about 10 o’clock/3 o’clock/8 o’clock bass-mids-treble. Everything at noon produces a fairly scooped tone. My ears tell me that these pedals respond similarly, but as always I defer to Senor Sushi.

I've also got an Underground Accelerator, a London Underground, a Smoke Signal, a Particle Accelerator and and SBVT. I love them all; they are different flavors of great. But if you told me I could only have one, it would be the Elementary. It's that good.

Sushi box and mesa di+ is a great combo I also highly recommend
