Great demo man. I'd like to see demos like this for all the other pedals too. I know that takes time, organising etc.

@FronTowardEnemy - what was your signal chain for the gig you played with the Dreamcatcher? What was the stage rig (if one existed)? How did the live signal chain effect what we are hearing in the demo.

It's certainly sounds great. I understand channel A is intended to be clean but if I'm not mistaken there is definitely a bit of drive available at higher gain?

@Sushi Box FX - is the tone stack based on the Fender tone stack you use quite a lot?

So the signal chain for the gig was Fender P Bass>DreamCatcher>Boss TU-3W>Broughton SV-Pre>Becos Stella>TC Impulse>Broughton HPF>SushiBox Finally. No amps on stage, IEM for me. The live signal chain had a Berg cab sim with compression on and the SV-Pre disengaged. What I did in the demo was a straight P Bass into a TC Ditto into the DreamCatcher straight out to my AI.

I have to admit… when I heard your voice speak the first sentence I thought “OMG he got H Jon Benjamin to do a pedal review!”

Not to suggest a potential custom away from Sushi Box (whom I love and own more from than any other pedal maker), but another pedal artisan that I love the work of has a Blend knob on their most deluxe Rat pedal.

Check out the Drunk Beaver Heavy Bat. It's probably way more options than you actually want; in addition to the Blend knob, it has two Channels, selectors for four different Op-Amps, and eight different clipping modes.

I had a look at the Heavy Bat. There are a few videos that sound really good. As you surmised though, it has way more going on that I need.

While fumbling around the interwebs, I stumbled on to the Blue Colander Tremond.


I think it’s a lot closer to what I think of in regards to a Rat with a clean blend.

Just got my first Sushi Box pedal (Underground Accelerator) and couldn't be happier, sound is just incredible.

This is my first anything with tubes in, anything special to know about concerning tube pedals? E.g. should I give it time to warm up, do tubes need replacing every few years, etc. (most stuff I've found online is about tube amps, so no idea if any of it is relevant here).

Warm up: Plug it in, by the time you put the bass around your shoulder it is ready to go.
Should get 10+ years from the tube unless you are rough or some other wonky thing.

Preamp tubes last a long time....often many years...no need to replace unless/until it craps out. It's warm in a few seconds. If you leave it on and engaged while not playing it, the tube is "in use" so better to disengage the switch when not using it if it's powered up, only because there's no point in putting even minimal wear on the tube when not playing through it.

Question for the group. I currently have a Finally for my board. It does a great job of warming up the board and sending out a signal to FOH. I love tubes warmth and wondering if also adding a More or Space Heater would work well or be overkill. Currently run Tuner>Env Filter>YYZ>Chorus>VTDI>Finally.

Where would I add in the chain. Note: YYZ is not always on, if I want a grindy overdriven Geddy like sound I turn it on and bypass VTDI.

I’ve got a Finally at the end, a More at the beginning, a HW Space Heater in the middle, and either a Slampegg, UA, or Elementary right before the Finally. So I’m running multiple tubes all the time. It sounds huge, and feels like playing through a big tube amp.

I only use 1 of the pedals that have EQ at a time. The More, Finally, and Space Heater are always on. Then I use one of the 3 (Elementary, Slampegg, Underground Accelerator) as my preamp, depending on what tone I’m after.

Also, I’ve found that the More is quite different than the Finally/Space Heater. Different enough that it makes perfect sense to me to have both.

The More seems almost less colored, at first, until you turn it off. Then I realized that it really enhances what I’m putting into it—my highs sound fuller and clearer, my lows sound bigger and deeper. The pedal has the perfect name, imho, as it really does just that—gives you “more”. It’s one of my favorite pedals that I’ve owned to date.

Just an FYI I have a hand wired Slampegg B Pre (white powder coat under full colour, green LEDs, stock tubes, bottom no longer perfect due to removed velcro-remainder pristine) that I would like to swap for a Finally, More or UA, +/- $$ as warranted. PM me if interested. I am not fussy about finish or hand wired vs SMD but no min tube versions svp. Thanks.

Is is fingers and roundwound strings? I usually play with a pick, but the reason I ask is I like how the overdrive starts coming in but the top end doesn't become harsh. This is exactly how I want an overdrive to sound and react.
AND to have 2 channel settings, one with a slightly hairier overdrive is really important to me.

Ready to go really fast. A minute? Also if you run at 9V it seems to pull a little harder for a moment on startup. Is that my imagination?

That is right. Fingers style, with Elixir nickels about 1 month old and 4 gigs in into the DreamCatcher going to a PreSonus Studio 2|4 into a DAW for recording.

I'm going to continue working today and tomorrow, but I will be taking Wednesday night off as it's my birthday. At my current pace I still expect everything to be finished up and shipped out by this weekend though, which is perfect as it allows me to take next week off.

Also I am still planning to open ordering for the December batch tomorrow, which will include Glass Butterfly, Echosaurus Valve, and Dreamcatcher among its new offerings.

Some of you may remember a couple years ago I made a time-lapse video of the entire build process of a Slampegg Bee Pre, which I thought turned out pretty neat. Now a full two years later, the majority of that video is outdated as my build process is completely different, so this month I took video documenting the build of a Black Eye II (@Ryan L. 's Black Eye II to be precise) and am planning to get that together next week, so that's kinda fun.

The prototype is still sitting on my bench. I milled a box out for it so it could be better tested, but the dimensions were wrong so the board doesn't fit and I never got around to doing another one.

The Space Heater will give you what you’re describing.

The Space Heater I think flies under the radar. I somehow ended up with ywo of them and now have a UA with the tone stack defeat switch. Looking forward to comparing with a More in a while.
