Not a UA per se, but I swapped the AX7s in both my SMD and HW Space Heaters (Space Heater is a UA without the tone stack)
I wanted the output tamed a bit (as neither have the trimpot for doing so) and I wanted more clean gain on tap.
They accomplished both those things.
Now I can run a higher gain setting, without any breakup.
This gives me more tube "color", without getting overdriven by the pedals in front of it.

Nope, no biasing required for preamp tubes.

I tried a variety of different 9-pin preamp tubes in my handwired Finally (very similar circuit to the UA). I use my Finally with both guitar and bass, and for that application I like a 5751 best; but if I were using it for just bass, my favorite for that application would be a 12AY7.

The below are my casual observations, other players experiences may vary:
12AX7 worked great, but it would hit its saturation/distortion point and breakup easier than I liked.
5751 was a sweet spot for me, lots of articulation but with just a little bit of "edge" taken off compared to the AX and with a little extra "headroom" to boot.
12AY7 took the edge off slightly more than I'd like for guitar but was perfect for bass and I could just get the tube to still breakup when played very hard, felt like a great middle ground between the 5751 and the AU.
12AV7 worked fine but to me it was too transparent, so little character added to the signal that it felt more like a hi-fi op-amp rather than a tube.
12AU7 worked well, imparted plenty of "tube" character and had tons of "headroom" (no signal breakup without a boost in front), but for me it "rounded" the sound off too much for guitar or aggressive/modern bass.

NPD..my first Sushi Box arrived 3 days early. HWUA w/bypass. Now experimenting with 2 Fender tone stacks,
I may use the 64 to kick in more OD when needed and keep the UA always on, or move the 64 off and replace with another Sushibox for overdrive or Finally, or cmon Furthurmore. Lots of options especially after reading 742 pages here. My toanz board..maybe too many toanz..:) oh yeah ..and this is sitting on a Bergantino Forte HP :) :) and a Barefaced Supertwin. Will be cranking my 66 Starfire into it Sat night at The Lamp Theater in Irwin PA. Anyone local?

Great looking board! May I suggest trying the compressor after the two preamp pedals? I ran with my compressor first for years, but have now changed to running comps after amp-in-a-box preamps and like it WAY more.

I will give it a shot. Currently having a hard time accepting the 64 may be trumped which it seems now. Thx

Nice. I do like it this as well. Ua is more dynamic and like it always on. Its so good. Board got lighter. I think the times I need the extra overdrive Ill get it from the forte hp. Lighter board more manageable for what I need. Hpf then bass boost from the minnow is pretty cool to. Driving wife nuts. I need to stop. Thx.

@Sushi Box FX - Hey man. I know there is much talk about the possibility of a "Furthermore" pedal, and I also realise this maybe be some time away.

So bearing that in mind how hard or possible would it be to create a "Finally" with adjustable high and low pass filters (set slopes, 2 extra knobs, adjustable high and low frequency points)?

Could call it a Finally Plus ?
