Thank you, but, I have yet to receive the "backordered" PF 350. If I ever do, I will try it and, hopefully, find it satisfying. Between the delays in receiving the amp and the Sushi pedals, I am beginning to wonder if it is all worth it.

At this point, I am thinking a Mesa WD800 might be the the way to go.

The UA could possibly drive the fx return properly. Maybe someone can confirm?

In that case you could use the amp & pedals in few different ways.

• amp + pedals into the input
• UA in the FX loop as an ”amp warmer”
• Slampegg -> UA -> FX return

@SoulReflection I was early into the Subway series... IMo the D-800+ is the sweet spot for someone with pedals. The WD-800 seemed to be the answer to a question I wasn't asking...YMMV but the WD-800 did not stick with me long. I eventually settled on the Subway DI+ for that niche.

I agree that if your tone is coming from pedals, the 800+ is a good ticket, but for me, the WD800 is the ultimate stand alone head. All I need in front of it is compression, but if I choose to use pedals, it will do exactly what the 800+ can, with a more tuneable eq if I decide to go through the front end rather than the FX return. Different strokes.

FWIW I get really nice results using the Fx Loop return on my GK MB500 and @Sushi Box FX pedals.

This isn't important, but I wanted to share because it came out neat. Black print over a matte black powdercoat, nuts and washers all powdercoated to match. Huge waste of time, but kind of neat.

I can attest that a Space Heater or More sound great in the EFX Loop. This is what I use when I want clear, warm, transparent. More or less my replcement for an Avalon U5.

I'll use SlampeggX into Underground Accellerator into More for a more rock&roll setting.

As far as running a Slampeg X into a power amp directly. waste of time... Needs an additional gain stage.

Thanks for that, @4Mal ! I have an Ampeg SCR-DI that just might work. I will give it a shot when my Sushi pedals and PF350 arrive.

The answer is always "it depends" as different amps will respond differently. I can drive the FX return on both of my amps (GK Backline 600 and Genz-Benz Streamliner 900) with a Slampegg. I guess I have really friendly FX loops.

We'll see. I did once for someone as a special request in 2020 and it's obviously not hard, but the matte black powdercoat goes in and out of stock more than most powders and is currently not an option. Could happen in the near future though. I guess another issue is my usual supplier of XLR jacks stopped carrying them in black so an all black Finally would still have a silver XLR jack.

EDIT: just remembered another reason it can't become standard any time soon - the classy black footswitch is only available in "full size" whereas 100% of my pedals are designed around "low-profile" footswitches, so putting a black footswitch in would require a redesign of the circuit board.

It is actually. I had some requests on a DIY forum to design a DIY-friendly Fender preamp from a schematic provided by one of the forum members, and it happened to be very similar to the Particle Accelerator, so I made this. Boards aren't available for sale yet, but they will be soon.

Is this related to impedance? Mesa WD800 has 20K ohm in the fx return.

Yup, impedance is going to be a big factor. 20kΩ is incredibly low for an input and would load down a lot of devices that are expecting a higher impedance input.
