I made Deep Dish for a while, it was more or less a clone of the Effectrode LA-1A but with 2 tubes instead of 3. I want to get back into compressors and I have a new schematic all drawn up and waiting for a layout. I'm hoping to get a prototype spun together soon, but the factory that makes my circuit boards is currently on break for lunar new year, so even if the design was ready the boards wouldn't get built for another two weeks anyway.

one has been sitting dormant in the classifieds I keep eyeing, I just don’t have room, surprised I hadn’t been taken.
Had to say that I pulled my old mini tube Particle Accelerator out of storage, and wow, that is some tubey S#!t. It provided a lot of that thick old school tone, better than my More, which is also great but more sparkly and alive. I wonder if that was other people experience.
I put it away because it was picking up some noise in a basement practice space that I was doing some recording it. It seem more noisy when I cranked up the gain. With the gain in the middle it sounded great. No hair, but that is okay. I may try in out again, as I don't remember it being noisy during gigs.
I also had a question. I am looking for a simple rig to leave at that same practice space and wondered if the Deep Dish is a decent compressor, I know people love the tube stuff it does, but not sure if I understand a rectifier compressor, and thinking it is different than optical or VGA, but thinking I am not understanding something. Thanks.

The compression circuit is optical. I have the original (Effectrode LA-1A) and that is a beast of a compressor. So yes, if the Deep Dish comes close it's most certainly a "decent compressor".
I own a Deep Dish compressor and it's essentially a more with a added compressor circuit it sounds good but has a fairly limited usable range atleast for my current needs unfortunately and I'm looking to flip or trade it off eventually. It is by far the coolest looking pedal I've owned tho with it's bright metering purple LEDs and purple sparkle finish

Deep Dish, like the LA-1A, is an optical compressor. It does have a precision rectifier as part of the sidechain, which is the part that takes the audio signal (AC) and converts it to DC in order to toggle the LED side of the optical bit.
The purple sparkle finish was one of my favorites that I offered, I'm going to try to get that one back in the near future.
Yes, I'm planning for the new one to also be optical. I don't have any problems with the other types, and I've built a couple (non-tube) VCA-based compressors in the past that I liked, but I keep coming back to optical as it feels "right" to me.
The DD in the classifieds was once mine (I was 2nd owner). I did not like it at all. The comp got too squishy too quickly and it produced more noise than I liked. I had hoped it'd be like an L1-A but smaller....and it was only smaller. I wonder whether these factors played a role in its' being DC'ed?
I have a preference for the mini tube pedals as well particularly the PA and SB that are on my recording board, but I would have no issue gigging with them were I to ever gig again. Those early and retired designs still deserve to be heard and played IMHO.
I use my MBD-2 as an always on, beefy, slightly overdriven clean sound and have it before my Space Heater. Space Heater is last on my board. It sounds really good for me. I know this doesnt answer your question fully, though at least i can give you some info on these 2 pedals. Could even do some kind of test for you if you like??
I freely admit that I still prefer the mini-tube pedals. I have a PA, LU, and Slampegg all mini-tubes. I have actually sold all of my 12AX7 pedals mainly because I wasn't using them right now and I can always replace them if need be. I won't sell those mini-tube pedals though
That's great, thanks! I'm pretty set on the UA when funds allow but this appeals to me - if you can just do a quick before/after with the SH on/off I'd sure appreciate it. No rush at all, just whenever it's convenient. Thanks again!
Mmkay, I have the custom ordering almost ready to go, here's a quick preview of what it will look like:
It won't have pictures of what every pedal will look like with every LED color simply because if you accurately show the pedal finish you can't see the LED very well, and if you accurately show the LED color you can't see the pedal finish very well. So the pedal model, LED color, and tube(s) included or not are all drop-down menus, then you'll choose the pedal finish and knob color by choosing from the pictures shown. Obviously I plan to get all of them up eventually, but my fractured cherry powder just shipped today so I don't have those yet. I will be getting prismatic cosmos pictures for everything tonight though, and at that point I'll probably open ordering for February. I'll do the usual thing of letting the secret society know first, then from there spread the word to everyone else.

I'm charging more for Fractured Cherry than for Prismatic Cosmos because fractured cherry is a two-part finish, meaning every pedal will need to be powdercoated twice, whereas prismatic cosmos is a single-coat finish.

Fractured Cherry is my favorite. This FCPA was my very first Sushi Box pedal. I think. I could have ordered these two together
Deep dish sounds really good as a tube Gain stage and not quite as good as a compressor so I think Nathan's move to come out with the "More" preamp in its place was a smart move it really shines for that use case imho
