The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Also, just need to chime in and say that I've been loving how my UA is making the amp I leave at a rehearsal space sound. It's just a wee little Fender Rumble 40, which ticks a lot of boxes, but lacks guts/heft, and is a little too 'squeaky' clean. Putting the UA gain up to just about noon, I could feel the saturation, thickness, and touch of hair starting to kick in. Really sings when hit with some overdrive on the front end, too; even a low gain dirt pedal set modestly will create some magic.

What a killer pedal!

I had a list of things I wanted to get done tonight, and it all went out the window as the last of my cables finally shoed up and I was able to complete my monstrosity of a pedalboard. In its previous configuration it had 11 tubes spread out between 6 pedals, now it has 12 tubes spread out between 9 pedals. My Cioks bricks get WARM. By the time I got everything plugged in and got the wires tidied up it was 11:30, so I just spent the last hour actually playing my instrument, which is something I haven't done (aside from to test pedals) in months.

In case anyone was wondering, the two 3-knob Black Eyes are handwired, but I don't plan to make more. The "Chrysalis" series taking up the bottom row is what would happen if you took Glass Butterfly, removed a tube, then only loaded a single effect into each unit so you could have separate control of each effect. They have some shortcomings, so I don't plan to release those to the public either, but they work well enough for my specific needs.
Play time is essential, so no apologies needed. Sweet board, very sweet. .

Although I do want to ask, given your recent fatal prognosis of its impact/tone/benefit in comparison to its big brother, how come you're rocking A Little More here as your (from the looks of it) last-in-line tone shaper???
This is actually my guitar board, and my main issue with A Little More is that it sounds noticeably worse as a tone shaper/tube sweetener, but it still works well as a clean boost when it isn't the only tube pedal being used. It's lacking a little low end compared to More, but that makes it a fair candidate for guitar work.

Another factor is that the board is tightly packed and a full size More wouldn't fit there :P

....looks like you could heat your house with that board, and fry some eggs in a pinch......
The Cioks DC7 and 4 on the bottom get warm enough that the carpet underneath the board stays warm several minutes after the board was put away. The tubes on top make a lovely foot warmer when playing in my chilly basement.

I am trying to decide between the UA and the More. Looking to add a bit of "Tubeyness" to my D800+. Some harmonic character and possibly light tube compression and warmth. Which would be the best option?

Also, what do you power your mMore with? The draw is 900/480 mA and the high side Cioks is only 300mA.

Others are probably better equipped to answer (especially anybody who has used both pedals), but based on what you are describing, the UA or something along those lines might be the move. The compression and warmth, at least in my experience, comes primarily from the tubes just beginning to break up and saturate. I don't believe the More is ever supposed to get dirty, and while it will almost guaranteed add "tubeyness" to your sound, it may not be the specific type you want.

what in the heck is a chrystalis octaver and why dont I have one yet?!

#want

Glass Butterfly - 1 tube - 7 effects = Chrysalis Octave

It has some quirks that I don't feel great about releasing into the wild, which is why I haven't. If there's enough interest I may work up a prototype to send around for testing though.

A bitchin' Tube Octaver that rules on bass could be very popular. Especially with your genius at combining circuit designs like the classic OC2 or Pearl Octaver for sub octave. The ability for clean 1 or 2 octaves up [POG ~ ish] and down perhaps even adding a fifth [like the Quint Machine]. You might consider adding a rotary mode selector if possible for that.
Especially in that form factor.

Dreamcatcher arrived today. 1st impression is that it's perfecto for me as is. I will likely not have to swap the red channel tube for lower gain. I have the blue channel set at "warm" with mild bass and treble boosted (both at 9:00) mids maxed, and the red with more marked bass and treble bumps (both at noon) with higher gain and mids maxed. I compensate for the relative mid scooping with my head's eq. This way the blue channel is pretty much my default. I have the red channel set similar to Robert DeLeo's tone on Interstate Love Song. That isolated track that really opened my eyes to using OD to paradoxically help bass clarity in a mix. When I want total clarity I'll bypass it.

Lol add a rotary switch and add more features while keeping it in the same form factor? That's not going to happen :P I had to move the volume pot to an internal trimpot like Echosaurus Valve because I ran out of room. It's packed pretty tightly inside.

I was brainstorming, shoot me.:spit::cool:
I still say a tube based FV1 octaver like the OC2 or Pearl Octaver would be a seller, I would certainly buy one. Seems like some others agree.
Do you need a blend and a mix?

If I were to release this to the public I would probably change the way the algorithm works, but in this pedal it's actually a dual pitch shifter, not technically a dual octave. The Octave 1 and Octave 2 knobs set the pitch of the voices (maximum one octave in each direction), and the Blend knob sets how much of each voice is active, i.e. full counterclockwise you only hear Octave 1, full clockwise you only hear Octave 2, and at 12 o'clock you hear both equally. Mix controls the balance of affected tone with dry tone.

Man, this really shows how a tone that really fits the mix doesn't really translate to a beautiful "bedroom" type tone. I ditched the Mesa tt800 real quick due to just not liking the solo'd tone, but it probably would have been great in the mix.

Can't wait to try mine out! I'm setting up a new Nano pedal board, and this should cap it off!

I think the octave market is wide open right now. The 3 Leaf and Iron Ether offerings aren't available unless you want to get gouged. Boss has their OC offering, but somewhat boring even if they do sound good. I think an Octave done right with tube could be just what we need. Especially if it has a filter where you can go from dub to synthy or even just with a little hair on it. Personally, I don't use the Octave -2 at all, I could see if you only play in higher octaves it could maybe be useful or for guitar, but for me, I have it turned all the way off on my OC5. Though the Octave +1 I do use a little bit of for a more synth-like effect.

Duly noted. I have other things in the queue that need to happen first, but I shall keep this in mind.
