haha. Omg I totally did not mean it to come off like that but that’s hilarious. Already have one Sushi in the pipeline and to be honest, the sushi pedal I ordered last night I totally wanted anyway, it was just a matter of when I was going to be able to order it.

It did make me feel all glowy warm on the inside to place the order tho.

Really nice video and tune ! The video brings home how much work is involved in producing each pedal . Plus it does make it seem like an awful lot of work for the money you charge for your pedals but I do understand your missionary zeal to bring high quality pedals and reasonable prices to all us secret society members ! I've had a lot of people ask me specifically how certain steps of my build process are done, or more just generally how I build pedals the way I do. Well to answer those questions I decided to film every step of the build process for one of the November Slampegg builds and speed it up to a watchable length of 6 minutes (the regular speed video is about 2 hours, nobody wants to watch that).

Oh and I decided it needed background music but I didn't want to deal with copyright stuff so I put in an original song without the vocals and looped it

Dude I had a pick and place machine that I had to refurbish a few times. I would have totally given it to you, but I couldn't forsee a future use for it. It wasn't really worth anything, so it got left behind in a dumpster after my last move. It was only manual (not programable), but once or twice through a board and workflow quadrupled.

Dude I had a pick and place machine that I had to refurbish a few times. I would have totally given it to you, but I couldn't forsee a future use for it. It wasn't really worth anything, so it got left behind in a dumpster after my last move. It was only manual (not programable), but once or twice through a board and workflow quadrupled.

Oh no! That's literally the only other machine I can think of that would speed up my workflow. It wouldn't improve quality per se, as the smallest components I use are 0805 passives which I can place accurately by hand, but it would be nice to just hit a button, grab a snack, and come back to populated boards. With the cheapest one I've seen being around $3k though, don't know that it would happen.

I believe you were forced to make the right choice. The only advantage of the pedal that shall remain nameless is the cab sim. word on the street is that Bee Pre is the better sounding pedal. I have a cab sim. I don't believe I need the other.

BTW I have a number of pedals that shall not be named on my board, so nothing against them at all. Don't let this get out, but I have sold a few of those unnamable pedals as well. Not a collector. I have no idea how I'll be able to keep all the Sushi Box pedals I have coming my way. And I am tempted daily to get more. Hmmm...what was I saying about not being a collector?

Absolutely nothing against nameless pedal/builder

Haha Thanks. One of the reasons I want a pedal by said builder is simply bc I don’t have any. FOMO. But I know it’s great stuff too.

I’ve heard the same word on the street of the BeePre which is what I ordered last night

So, London Underground coming in Jan and BeePre in April. Pretty excited about both these beasts!

Yeah… I definitely do not disagree. I definitely don’t want to d-rail the thread with negativity. I understand why things are the way they are for both builders and the pluses and minuses to both scenarios. As a consumer, I definitely prefer the way sushi does it. That said, if sushi gets popular enough it could become an almost similar scenario where the day that the next 20 slots are released, they sell out in minutes. Which is what would happen if the other builder did it this way. So really same boat.

At the end of the day I’m happy and thankful for all these guys doing their thing, getting us excited about new gear and inspired to play. And I always need the next piece of exciting gear that I’m gassing for on my mind or I just wouldn’t feel right LOL

One last thing that I’ll add that I like about the way sushi does it that a buddy of mine pointed out is that I feel like a potentially cuts down on people buying things just to flip them. Not that a lot of people do that. But like with sushi, I bought my pedal spot last night, I don’t get my pedal until April which is 100% fine with me, but if I was just looking to buy it and flip it that would be a long while to be waiting just to make a few bucks…

That is way too long to wait for a pedal after having paid. If it was a custom bass or amp maybe, but not a pedal. How long before the wait is too long? Fair enough… And totally understandable point for sure. I don’t know the answer to the question of how long is too long? Again, there’s pluses and minuses to both scenarios. I certainly don’t want to wait that long for my pedals but I’m willing to do it. I can certainly see where others would not.

I guess the other option for either builder is to get lucky and snag one out of the classifieds or heaven forbid on Reverb LOL

It's boutique pedals, if you want one, you wait for it, then you get a special and rare piece.

What's worst,
Waking up in the middle of the night to realize that it's sold out or even waking up at midnight and hit refresh on the webpage untill 8 am... for me that's a waste of time
I rather just reserve a spot and wait, at least i know that i will get it

Another very nice point about Sushi Box is he posts sound samples so you get a general idea of what the pedal will sound like . Some other pedals that are out may well be very good but sound samples are exceedingly rare so it's very difficult to know what they sound like beyond the raves of some owners who proclaim it the "end all to be all " etc .
As for the paying for slots versus the midnight scramble argument - one seems like a reasonable solution to an intractable problem and the other just seems like it's a bit of an ego trip as far as the very random timing for the drop goes . Maybe there is no good solution to distributing scarce and highly desirable goods like these but I'm with the "put the down payment down and wait " crowd on this .... Kelly

There’s certainly room for all the differing scenarios and you have to respect the creator/builder/owner’s prerogative to run a business the way that works for them. We’re talking about one man shows here, and they have day careers and families that are more important to them than other people’s pedal GAS. I have the utmost respect for the people that are creating these wonderful toys for us to play with. Life is way to short and already stressful enough these days to worry about what isn’t available at the precise instant that I desire it.
