The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I got the prototype boxed up to play with more, and I love it. It does everything the current Slampegg does but better. It doesn't drive as hard since 6SL7 has a lower amplification factor than 12AX7, but obviously this is the way B-15N was designed, and it's glorious. Delightfully warm and punchy.
My goodness, this sounds good! @Sushi Box FX , do you have an idea of where this prototype is in the pecking order of things to be trial and tested, before being built for sale? Obviously I know right now will be all about VENUS, but this version of Slampegg sounds amazing! :)

I leave the prototype sitting on top of my amp because I don't have a better place to put it right now, and as a result I plug it in every now and then just to noodle around, and it is a solid winner. Like it's good enough to the point where I'm considering (eventually) replacing the 12AX7 version of Slampegg completely with this and making it the only B-15 offering I have.

As you said Venus is top of the list for the immediate future, and after that I'll have to work through some things, but this is going to be pretty near the top of the list. Currently the hot items on my list are, in no particular order:
  • Slampegg 6SL7
  • SBVT II (@FronTowardEnemy I'll probably hit you up in the next few days on this one)
  • Furthermore
  • "Euclid"
Further down the list but still something I'm thinking about:
  • Greenhouse
  • Firebox
  • Bento Box
Euclid is one of those passing ideas I had (there are soooo many) that ended up making its way into a prototype. It isn't something anyone had really asked for, and it will likely evolve as I develop it. Right now it's just a circuit board sitting on my workbench, eventually it will either end up as a very large pedal or as a 19" rackmount unit, depending on which direction I end up taking it. It will probably be something that I build because I want it, and one or two people may say "sure, sign me up too" before it disappears. Anyway, more on that one later.

will the new slampegg have a DI?

I’ve got a Dreamcatcher on the way. Yay! My first tube!

Is there any consensus on where to place these tube preamps in a pedal chain? I feel I could make a strong case for both beginning and end of my board…

No, there is no consensus, because it all depends on what pedals are in your chain and what your tone goals are.

I use a Korg tuner first then into my tube Hagerman tube compressor (or Cali 76) into the UA then into my other effects EQ>Reverb>EBS Chorus>Delay>BBE new model Sonic Stomp> and into the Finally direct box using the tube preamp out. It's probably the best pedalboard configuration I've ever assembled. The board is totally quiet with no residual noise and has a great big sound.

My perfect for me pedalboard is
Aionfx Oceanid built by raygun designs
Chop shop Od built by RCO
Sushi UA
Sushi GB
Sushi More
Broughton H+L filter
Radial sb2

I have my HWUA next to last on my board with a Zoom MS60B for modulation, delay, reverb, occasional EQ and ZNR.

My other @Sushi Box FX pedals are used for recording adding their unique flavor as needed.
My Smoke Stack is similarly used on a guitar, piccolo bass board. I am planning another treble instrument board with the Bass Dude and JC Emerald for a blues project I am about to begin recording.

Unsolicited advice for the website. Instead of having thumbnails for each finish for each pedal, just have a dropdown or radio button. Then have a link to a page that has all of the available finishes. The finishes all pretty much look the same on any pedal, a UA in fractured cherry is going to look like a MORE in fractured cherry, just with more knobs.

That way you don't have to get a picture of every pedal in every finish. Just a picture of each finish on any pedal.

will the new slampegg have a DI?
Probably not. It's tempting to add a D.I. output to every preamp I make, but that's a huge chunk of real estate inside the box that would drive several models to larger boxes, and it would pretty well be at least an extra $100 on top of the price.

@Sushi Box FX - I've asked about tubes before (12AT7 has less gain than 12AX7), but where does the 6SL7 stand in comparison to 12AT7 and 12AX7?
6SL7 is in between the two. 12AX7 has a gain factor of 100, 12AT7 has a gain factor of 60, and 6SL7 has a gain factor of 70.
