I got my first Sushi Box pedal today... A London Underground I found for not too much in a shop here in the UK (equivalent of $100, I think that's a good price, our prices are higher anyway due to the way we're taxed)

Bit of background...
Last year I built a lovely Frog Pedals F1B PCB and built it up into a pedal... so similar idea as what a particle accelerator is... except it has a few issues...
1) something in my wiring makes noise
2) the output is utterly stupidly high
3) I think my valve is microphonic or a bit noisy
But the valve is a 1953 Telefunken ECC82 and sounds really really lovely.

So I get the London Underground, @Sushi Box FX let me know it had the Fender tonestack in it, I plugged it in and had a play...
And it's really nice, it might be the gains being different but it sounds very different, something different going on in the mids, and it sounds tighter and a bit more aggressive.
On the plus side - utterly silent and pro level usability...

So what would you do in my situation? Switch the valves of course! And the old Telefunken went in the sushi box... and it suddenly got a lot quieter (which you would expect as the ECC82 has less gain than ECC83) boost the gain and volume and it gets and the rich rounded tone was there again. Tone controls seemed to make more difference too. It was still pretty quiet in terms of background noise but interestingly some of the noise that I was getting with the Frog was there too - so I think it's the tube that isn't good.

So my conclusion. It sounds nicer, is quieter, and more usable than the DIY one I've made, it's also smaller and takes up less board space. But... possibly with a different valve it would sound even nicer!
So happy, got to explain to the wife how I spent more money...

Odd that the local TX Chuys don't have Flan on their menu like the ones in NC do, it was one of the better chain restaurant versions of Flan.

Never been a custard fan. I'd much rather have apple pie made with a lard crust (nice and flaky). There are some Amish markets near me, and they really do it right.

Mute with the tuner, still buzz. Cables all seated well in the proper holes.

Ah... Darn ground switch lifted.

Flip it back down to ground and all is back to no noise but clear bass bliss.

Watch them switches.

mine is the opposite. buzz all the time unless lifted. sounds great though!
